Need some Ferrari expert advice on this one. The local machine shop is suggesting I go 5 angle if it benefits the flow for these heads. They had advised 3 angle are better for some. Anyone have a rough answer? Common sense tells me 5 angles = better flow

True but in this case, whether it's worth the money is the issue. IMO, it is not. The more angles a valve job (properly done, of course) the better the flow theoretically. BUT the more angles, the faster the wear because the sealing area is much narrower. Competition engines normally have a 5 angle or even a radiased surface but they are rebuilt frequently. For street use an 3 angle is plenty sufficient. The difference in flow is not worth worrying about for street driving. Mopar hemi Barracudas in SS trim (currently turning 8.29 in the 1/4 mile) pick up about 15 HP with a 5 angle over 3 angle valve job. That's 15 HP at almost the 900+ HP level at 8k RPM. So if one of our Ferrari motors even managed to pick up 3 HP, I'd be impressed.

thanks guys. good advice. Thing is, my shop charges the same amount for 5 as the do for 3, strange I know. Henson engines in Yukon, OK is the place. I will be impressed if it makes 1 bhp more than a 3 angle. Don't think it matters a ton for this application.

I use a formed seat cutter so it makes no difference at all 3 angle , 5 angle or my personal favorite 4 angle 3 radius.
