You know what I miss? I miss the days of George Foreman, Evander Holyfield, Mike Tyson (in his prime), and maybe even Lennox Lewis (to a lesser extent).

Ah, those were the fights... remember Tyson vs Holyfield ("Finally", 1996) where Holyfield was given absolutely zero chance of winning by many commentators? :D I just tried to find a clip of it on YouTube but no luck - all the clips are of the ear-biting rematch ("The Sound and The Fury", 1997).

    All the best,
    Andrew.

Be careful of what you wish for because his son (George 'Monk' Foreman III) has just turned professional as a heavyweight, with his dad's approval too.

Whilst he is still learning (note him below following his dad's famous training methods), he has already had 2 professional fights so far which Ive seen, and won both by knockouts,in the first round.

If all goes well, watch this kid closely in a couple years. "...aaaaaand NEW..."

So where would Norton (Ken, not Ed) be ranked all time if only his fights against Ali and Holmes were considered?

I knew George Foreman has a bunch of sons (is it three or four of them) and they're all called George! :D

Didn't know any of them were getting into boxing though. I'm quite excited about that. :D

Yep, I knew about ALL of his son's called George. :D:D

I read somewhere once before that he didnt want any of his son's to follow in his foot steps. Looks like one of the boys finally talked Dad around. :p:p

Well, here is the deal: "Big George" (that's "Reverend George" to you & me!!!) had 10 kids, 5 boys 5 girls. All the boys are George with different middle names. All the girls have a George somehow in their name.

What I read was that he laid down a law in his house that none of the kids could go into boxing. Unless. Unless they completed college (university to you guys) first. So that was the deal. One of his daughters got involved for a short while and he talked her out of it. Anyway, "Monk" graduated, and a year ago and decided to fight, reasoning that he could always go back to running the family business with dad after his fight career. But his dad said only if he could last 3 rounds with him. After 2 rounds Big George couldn't take it. Unfortunately for Monk, word spread and he could not get any amateur fights as they all canceled at the last minute. So he went straight to becoming a professional without a single amateur fight and he already has 2 KOs in the first round. he will take time to develop. Still a bit awkward, but what power! In his first fight he hit his opponent and it reminded me of his dad in Jamaica in 1973 when he knocked out Joe Frazier - the punch lifted poor Joe clean off the canvas!

But, coming back to Big George, you will all be pleased to know that in his 60-car collection in Houston there is a rather minty 1991 Ferrari F40!

Purely subjective of course, but Norton was a big fight specialist, a money fighter who rose to the occasion of the big stage, always at his best when challenged. Careless against Foreman who knocked him out, but Ali ranked him only below Frazier, and I think he was Holmes toughest opponent.

Norton would not rank in the top 25 all time heavy weights. Without the three tough fights with Ali, he was forgettable. He just had a style that Ali had a hard time with. His significant wins were against Duane Bobick, Jimmy Young, and Jerry Quarry.

He did give Holmes a tough one, but Holmes had a tougher time with Witherspoon, and really lost that fight even though he got the decision.

As I said: "Purely subjective". Fact is, he had those fights with Ali.

Definitely got to keep an eye on "Monk" Foreman then. Does he have any upcoming bouts? :)

That was a great one. Mine was Holmes vs. Cooney. A beautiful boxing lesson by one of the greats against the last great white hope. You hear taking someone into deep waters and drowning them, well that's what that was.

Here's one (and only one of many) of my favorites: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F03ji1_sVUw Moore vs Durelle: Give it at least a minute, and then you'll want to see the rest. The old Mongoose if full of surprises in this one. Hollywood could not have thought this one up!

Okay you guys aren't really boxing fans or you'd be discussing the controversial Dirrell, Abraham fight over the week end.

Dirrell boxed beautifully against the plodding Abraham. The end was suspicious in that Dirrell acted a little like he was looking for a way out, but it still doesn't tarnish his victory.

Hey, i'm an Abraham fan (Armenian) but he was utterly beat by Dirrell. and I think Dirrell was hurt!!!!! He was not looking for a way out. He won that fight fair and square.
