So i have been getting this p0422 code (main cat below threshold Bank 1)

I just put in a good set of pre cat headers and new o2 boxes . In my shop manual it says early cars had the o2 in the header and in the first location in the main cat.

I was thinking that the rear o2 should be at the rear of the main cat so it could read all what is coming out of the exhaust .

And on cars that did not have the pre cats the o2 were in just the main cat .

a very weird code that allways gave me trouble

What car are you talking about?

I have a 1997 F355 Spider with the same code....I plan to start trouble shooting it this weekend....I believe it is my catalytic converter but at this point I am not positive.

Its a early 2001 360 spyder . Where it has pre cats .

Its wereid that the later cars didnt put the 1st 02 in the header and my 2nd 02 is at the first hole in the cat , But the cars that didnt have the pre cats both 02 are in the main cat , i might try moving the rear 02 to the rear hole and leave my first 02 and the header

Pull the cats out, inspect for damage. Also inspect the pre cat in the manifold for damage.

It is the cat. Simply remove the cat, and you will see that the catalyst ceramic core is loose inside the housing. I have had this happen multiple times on my 355 with oem cats, both new and used. Most recently I sent one to http://www.smithcat.com/ and they cut open the factory cat, installed a metallic cat core and welded it back up for about $600. Retains the stock look. Just remind them to use ss welding rod, and NOT to paint it. ;)

Been on several drives, works fine, no CE lights anymore.

Ceramic, I believe. I just posted a thread with the same problem. But my cats are new Hyper-Flows. And I'm getting both DTCs for Bank 1 AND Bank 2.

It's in this forum if anyone can help me.

They are ss housings with ceramic cores. The ceramic cores were not secured properly (or robustly) during manufacture, so they work loose over time, causing the cores to move around and come apart. Once the exhaust flow is not going through the core, but instead mostly around it, you get the "low cat efficiency" diagnostic trouble codes...

hyperflows will not hang in there with the 5.2 OBD2 tests. Quality product, the Motronic map is just to tight to pass with the hyperflow units in place.

Not true. You do want to make sure that on a 96 or later, all your CE codes are clear and the OBD status is Ready before you go to DEQ.

My car just popped BOTH cat below efficiency codes for the left and right bank together. My tech is working on it this week to find the problem. I'm hoping it isn't the Hyper-Flows we installed last year
