I'm not actually expecting that number, but it makes a nice picture The software has a couple different ways it calculates. In a well tuned engine the method that looks at wave pulses predicts the highest value (this model won't even run on a stock 308....it doesn't understand why the engine works at all). This model says 930hp at 9500 rpm. The simple model just assumes you got it about right, basically you selected about the best off the shelf part you could find, this is the model I run all the 308 sims with and it comes very vert close. The simple model says about 825 with no muffler and 725 with a muffler. I will have mufflers so 825 is no good, but 12% for a muffler seems cray so I say closer to in between the 2 number or 775ish. Also notice that the simpe model drops the peak to alower rpm, the muffler sim says I've got everything about right for a 9k engine vs the other models where it/s really a 9.5k-10k engine. The 901 hp is a hybrid simulation where both models are run then combined and is supposed to be the most accurate.....well see but I expect to struggle to hit 800. The 3rd way I do it is a simple hand calculation. Good engines tend to make about 1 hp per 2.4 cfm (at 10" h2o). I have 157 cfm so about 65.4/cyl x 12 is 785 hp, right in between the muffler/no muffler simple model results and this is about where I'm actually expecting to see the result and i expect the peak right around 8.5k-9k. Still, 750 to 800 hp in a 2900 lb car is nothing to sneeze at! Thats a way better hp/tonne ratio than, say, a Veyron.
Do you think I need a tank that big for a street car? Moroso makes a 7 qt for $250 that is 6 dia by 24 tall that seems like it shouldnt be too hard to fit in and 7 qt seems like plenty of oil for any conditions Id ever see.
Since I’ve decided to use a motec ecu (at least at first), I’m going to put anything to do with that on a thread I started before I decide to go to the V12. I’ll keep the wires there and the metal here. http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=129196
I got a heads up today that I really should think about upgrading to ducati 1098 injectors instead of the 999 injectors I have. They have the same flow rate but a different spray pattern and apparently are much better for shower injector applications and particularly help idle/low power .and now that I Ive killed the 12 low power injectors ..its always something. Anybody need 12 490cc/min (46 lb/hr) injectors?
I am guessing Top Gear (The Stig baby!), Forza, Evo, and every other major Euro car publication is going to want a piece of 'The world's fastest 308' if not the fastest road Ferrari in the world. How cool would THAT be. wow.
I hate to say it, but probably not.....it's a 30 year old car. The worlds faster 458 though.....wait that's what I was calling my car
OK, 12 1098 injectors on the way. seriously, who needs 490cc injectors before Lana sees the bill for the new ones
I ran one of to the rough ports this moring....and it looks fine to me. Its a little low on the low lift flows but that should be right around the seat I think so I don't see any point in messing with it untill the reall seats are in. I'm going to call the rough porting done and sve what I thought would be a month of work and stip ahead to installing the intakes then go to the seats and finich machining then come back to final port clean-up. With some luck the heads will be ready to go out to have the the cam jounals cut and lifter bores honed by the end of the month. Image Unavailable, Please Login
The same people who had the injectors had a connector for the ducatic TPS so I grabbed one of those. The new injectors are weber IWP 189 and they are exactly the same flow rate as the old injectors but they have 12 spray holes instead of 1 on the only injector. This is supposed make a finer spray pattern that is ideal for shower injection set-ups. They were frikin expensive injectors so all I can say is they buy be God's gift to fuel injection. Some of you guys will like this and may not have caught it.....these are Weber fuel injectors, so technically I'm putting Webers on the engine.
I just ran through the flow numbers quickily....the velocity is at 197 ft/s which is a very good number. Stock is about 130-140 I think. I have a 28mm seat ID (before I was using 29.5) which means my 34mm valves are actually a bit big....but I have them and the numbers look good so they stay.
I got started on the manifolds....and of course it's not going to be quite as easy as I'd hoped. The port is about 25* off verticle but I would like the TBs to sit at of near verticle.....that means the manifold needs a slight curve to it....and it also needs some taper. My thought is 3 pieces a fairly heavy wall tubing bevel cut and welded then grind the snot out of it to make it smooth. I'll also ne to do some crushing to oval and take a chuck out of at least 1 piece to get the taper. Let the fun begin. He could do that, but I'm not sure how Yoga is going to help with the manifolds. By the way, which position on the affixed chart is the "24 degree mandrel bend"? All the best, Andrew. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I've been awake for 39 hours - sometimes that makes me go a bit... funny. I'll show myself out of the thread now. Carry on, gentlemen. All the best, Andrew.
Easier said than done. I can find 16g (.065 wall) with a 2.5" radius, but what I want is about an 8" or 12" radius and a 0.190" wall. If you have a souce, let me know....I would love not to fab them.
What is the dimension your looking for OD. I might be able to help. I have a programmable bender that I might have a die for if the size is right. John
What I have on hand is 2.25OD x .25 wall and it's about right.....a little small up near the TB and a bit too big down near the head.
No rubber boots. I'm going to bore the manifold so it stays where I put it, use an oring to seal it and use the ears that are there to hold the air box to bolt it in place and maybe hold the air box at the sam time.
M... I can't remember the head layout for your engine from memory but.... are the intake ports inline to each other??? I know sounds like a stupid ??? but had a thought
