Recently i replaced my majorette F355 with a UT. since the model was essentially worthless, i wanted to make use of it.
I also recently became tired of my yellow Enzo. a couple years ago i cut the roof making it a T-top.

a couple years ago some of you may recall, Ferrari auctioned off one of the test mules used to develop the Enzo's powerplant. It was part 348, part 355 with a Enzo engine shoehorned in. They called it the Enzo Prototype M3.

So for the last little while i've had this idea for a model in my head. I've never seen any one attempt this model before, so this is a huge project for me.
About 3 weeks ago i purchased 2 348TS models. 1 for my collection, 1 to chop up for the project. Last weekend i got started.

    planning the first cuts

Luckily i realized my mark was in the wrong place before cutting
    [IMG]

    348 and 355 cut apart
    [IMG]

wheels selected and painted (for those wondering, they came from my Lotec Sirius which has 10 spoke Kinesis rims)

    That was day one.

    Day 3: Chassis assembly.

When i finished working the night before, i put the model in my display cabinet and put the wheels under it so i could see what i would look like.
doing that revealed to me a critical flaw in my work. with this revelation, i realized my work on the interior tub wasn't necessary after all :(
    [IMG]

The wheel base was much to short to replicate the car i was building. I needed this much more
    [IMG]

I made a surface to glue on the rear part, and added a piece to extend the length
    [IMG]
For structural support i put a large piece of styrene on the bottom of the car
    [IMG]
The bottom of the enzo was grinded flat and then sanded(no pic - sorry) and then then glued to the front half
    [IMG]

Next up, engine. I trimmed the muffler off the exhaust, too about a quarter inch off the back of the transmission piece (just a square piece that held the muffler up) and i trimmed the front and back of the black side pieces attached to the airbox
    [IMG]

Then i put it all together to see where i'm at. I put the wheels that belong to each hub so i can get a proper feel for wheelbase.
i'm happy with my results so far.

I'm going to make one in 1/24 plastic....which appears will be much easier than what you're doing.

unfortunately it broke off a few weeks after i bought it (now going back more than 4 years).
It was my fault, so i couldn't return it.
I've tried unseccessfully to fix it on a couple occasions. I still have the mirror, and just bought a pin vise so i might be able to try put some sort of metal bar inside.

Yeah plastic would be much easier, but i prefer 1:18 scale. And i'm liking the challenge

Great choice to model. If you can complete the body, with the right details, this could be a fantastic model. Good catch on the wheelbase.

Actually this car was done before, in 1:43 scale (I have one).

However, I'd love it if someone built a bigger version, I think it's beautiful.

I'm using a rotary tool much like a dremel.
    it uses dremel attachments.

the blade im using is a EZ-Lock metal cutter. you can get them at any hardware store that stocks dremel parts. 1 blade was more than enough to make all the cuts so far.
