    Hi guys,

I have a 1982 GTSi (49 state verison) that I am trying to restore to Calif smog legal status.

All the smog machinery, plenum and throttle body were missing when I got the car, I have reinstalled everything missing. The throttle body I got did fit, but I don't know what year of 308 or mondial it came off, but it does fit the 3.0 plenum, I have 2 questions:

    Questions:

    1. The Mondial manual says the EGR electro-valve switch vacuum tube has to be attached to a vacuum fitting on the bottom of the throttle body, but on this throttle body I see no such fitting, so therefore should it be attached to the plenum, for full vacuum at idle, or some other location?

    2. There is a pair of wires with female spade lugs coming out of the wiring harness just behind the throttle body, all other connections of the wiring harness are accounted for, except for these two Was there some kind switch on the throttle body originally?

Does anyone know what these two wires attach to? There seems to be nothing I can see to attach them to. Is there a microswitch on the throttle body sometimes ?

    Thanks for the info.

    Andy

What is the color of the insulation on these two wires?

yes I see where the fitting is, it's right on the edge of the throttle blade....I don't see that port on the TBI I have, mine is from a different model I guess. (it said Mondial on the part anyway) don't know what year mondial its off, but it fits..............

Unfortunately, nothing obvious jumps out from the 216/81 OM wiring diagram for that color. Single N (black) wires go to the AC compressor clutch and the warm-up regulator ground, but those wouldn't usually be removed as part of "de-smogging". (No throttle microswitch on the 308i-2V engine.)

Do the female spade terminals only have one black wire each?

Are the wires "associated" with each other (like in the same insulating tubing)?

haha, yeah...What are you talking about? They can't be over 30 years old? They seem to be working just fine. If I ever do an engine out, or if they start acting up, they will be replaced. I guess I could hit them with a brush to help a little. Thanks for noticing!

PS...I'll expect the package of new injectors in the mail. Thanks for the freebee! lol

there are two lugs, one has 1 wire leading to the wire harness, the other has two wires leading to the same wire harness, can't tell the color, both look black, just dirty I guess.

I will clean off wires and see if colors show thru.

Andy, If you look at my 2nd photo you will see a small set of wires coming from the wiring harness under the plentum. They are in a green heat shield with two red wires on one lug and one white wire on the other lug. Could this be the wires you are talking about? Joe

I see the wires in your picture but that's them, the wires I am referring to are underneath the dead center of the plenum, and the wire harness runs along the valley of the block just behind the throttle body,
