Have you seen it in Historical Racing Livery? Its to die for. I am in love. Ferrari really has it going on. First the 458, and now this.

Agree with Napolis (overall only slight performance difference but mid versus front engined will be more noticable) through I've been told that the dynamics of chassis/electronics etc of car allow it to drive more "like" a mid engine than any front engine ever made.

However, specifically to your question, Ferrari says its the fastest road car they've ever built, period. I assume that means it will best even the legendary Enzo's performance envelope.

I was at the dealership this morning for a custom presentation on the car by some of the Italian engineers. Impressive design criteria. 599 is the build # confirmed.

Seems like a fun car can't wait to buy one in 5 years at half of today's MSRP
Before anyone gets in an uproar about valuations.
The 2005 575 SA is selling for half sticker at auction in today's market.

Sadly in five years you'll probably be able to buy one with 500 miles on it.

I know of an Enzo with less mileage than that.

There is a much bigger and radical gap between the regular 599 and GTO then there was between 575 and SA.
The new car is basically a street version of the 599XX ,according to the presentations made recently.

The Viper ACR, (I suppose you refer to this model, a normal production Viper is not able to break the 8 min barrier) is a track car with complete adjustable suspension and aerodynamics.
It means it is enough to prepare it for a specific track to improve several seconds.
Also a Seat leon prepared WTCC with semislick tyres could be faster than a 599 on a track.
The 599 GTO is still a GT, much track focused than a standard 599, but still a GT.
Ferrari's goal is not to beat nurburgring time.
When it was time to race, GT1-GT2 FIA or Lemans results showed real potential of its cars.
    Cheers
    Luque

Street version I think not - That's just a sell job.
This is more like the Scuderia was to the the 430

I dont see a viper at all.

This is nice because its adds some aggressiveness to the 599 that *I* prefer. However Im sure a lot of 599 drivers like the more subdued styling of their cars to this boyracer version.

My only real problem with this car (and Ferraris in general) is in person they are soooooo frickin huge compared to how they appear in pics.

Both are front engine Ferrari V12's one's track orientated the other a drop top.
Both will have a build number of less than 600.
What other vehicle would you suggest that comes closest to make a future resale comparison on the 599 GTO ?

+1 also wondering if the performance gains actually translate into a noticably better driving experience on the road over the standard 599 when for the extra cost you could buy an Ariel Atom for the track instead?

For those without a translator....you can watch same video on the Ferrari website/technical specs section of 599 (along with separate presentations on engine/trans, electronic vpr package and weight reductions)...its quite interesting--and offers good insight on the car/performance.

No. There is no class it would be competitive in.

Isn't there some sort of "showroom stock" class where it could be competitive in SCCA racing? Where do the Corvettes race?

Personally, I think the fact that there aren't many classes where you can take your street car in, change the tires, and race, is a bit sad.

No market guru, here - though no other recent Ferrari 12 comes to mind to draw comparison. Be interesting to see what this one does (dynamically).
