Does any one here have production numbers--that is, quantity made, preferably by model year? For some reason I have the number 1700-ish in my head but don't know where that came from and it seems, perhaps, low. Thx.

The figure sounds about ball-park but isn't there a thread covering production numbers by NNO somewhere here for all Ferraris

I don't have all of the numbers, so I definitely don't have exact numbers. And while it would be superfluous to reiterate Terry's post, I'd like to offer a general, if unfortunately nothing more than vague, projection of how each year might look.

First, let's consider that I'm missing roughly 600 575M serial numbers. With that said, I have 29 for 2001; roughly 500 for 2002; roughly 500 for 2003; 140-200 for 2004; roughly 100 (or less?) for 2005. These numbers do not include Superamericas, the majority of which were built in 2005.

    Carbon,
Do you also have numbers per year for the 550?
By the way, what data do you try to collect per VIN? Color, options, current owner, current location? I'd be happy to PM you the data for my 98 550.
    Thx.

Thanks, Toggie. I try to collect as many relevant details as possible. Obviously the VIN; but also the engine number, assembly number, date of production, body number, gearbox number, exterior colors, interior colors, options (tach color, carpet color, leather shelf as opposed to carpeted shelf), power seats or manual seats, shields or no shields, regular wheels or modular wheels (or aftermarket), caliper color, window codes (for Euro cars), mileage, where I saw the car and on what date. I also try to note any damage or aftermarket accessories or other unusual aspects. If it's for sale, I try to note where and for how much, and the details of the ad. Honestly there's more, but that's the gist of it. :)

Just like the 575Ms, my 550 numbers are incomplete. So, with that said, this is what I have...

I believe the quoted number of total 550s manufactured is 3,200; I only 1,800. Of those 1,800, this is how they break down: one in 1994; two in '95; 70-100 in '96; roughly 500 in '97; roughly 400 or more in '98; close to or around 400 in '99; 200+ in 2000; close to or around 300 in '01; one in '02; one in '05 (the '96 550 (117904) that became the Sperimentale conversion).

I know this isn't much help since I have data on only half of total production. But each new serial number gets me one step closer to more accurate and complete information.

You ever figure out what that 'Bass Gain' knob is on your dash? If not, Buddy might know. :)

LOL, the "Bass Gain" knob on the end of my center console works a hidden device that lets me know when I'm near police radar. Naturally, since I live in VA, I only turn it on when I'm out of state. ;)

BTW, I just swapped the standard wheels for modular 19" ones (the wheels used on the 575M). I still have my stock standard wheels in storage for the next owner. Of course, the tires on my stock rims were near-new when I decided to do the swap (and 18" tires don't fit well on 19" rims). So, I got new tires for the new rims too. I'll post pics of the new look soon.

I know that there was some speculation as to its radar-centric nature. Considering where you live, it's a pretty cool gadget.

Sweet! I'm looking forward to the pictures. How many miles are currently on it? How many when you bought it?

Car feels great. The tires were selected such that the outside diameter is near the same as the 18" tires. So, end result is about the same size overall.

But, obviously the sidewalls are much shorter on the 19" tires. Car seems to handle and feel the same as before. Maybe a little crisper but not overly so. No additional harshness or noise.

To drill down even further on this, does any body know how many TDF colored 2004s were made (like mine) ? Or red, silver, black, etc. for that matter, each year.

    Doug- Nobody does.

    Except for what Carbon tracks.

I am going to try and convince FNA to give me all the build sheets on the US 575Ms and see if I can generate some Corvette Black Book-like statistics on US model 575Ms. Not too sure how successful I will be, though. Beating the same information out of Ferrari SPA is probably impossible.

Thanks so much, it would be nice to know that "this is one of 60" (or whatever) for this year. Just a subject or conversation at cars and coffee events or when we go to sell (nooooo!) 20 years from now.

Doug- Suggest lying like the rest of us do. Nobody can prove you wrong. We can help you make up some statistics that would be close, and nobody could prove you wrong.

Assume 25% red or shades of red, 25% blue or black, and 25% silver or gray and 25% other colors, and you will not be too far off. My car was the 38th 2004 575M and built in November 2003, so 38 x 4 is ~152 2004 575Ms. Of the 25% blue or black, 38 cars, half black, 19 cars, and half blue, 19 cars. Of the blue cars, four blue paints were available Blu Pozzi, Blu TDF Metallic, Blu NART Metallic, and Azzuro California Metallic. TDF was by far the most popular of those, so let us say 12 cars, with the remaining 7 in the other three blue shades.

So it sounds like you have one of 10-12 TDF 2004 575Ms in the world.

Terry, that would be incredible if you were able to get that information!

I lament conceding that I have the time on a Friday night to lay out these numbers, but what the hell... :)

Okay, so I have 142 serial numbers of 2004 US model 575Ms, 18 of which are manuals, 88 of which are F1s and 36 whose transmission type are unknown.

The colors that I have for these 2004 US cars are as follows:

    Titanium / Grigio Titanio: 18

    Unknown: 43

    Black: 19

    Metallic Black: 2

    Rosso Corsa: 15

    TdF: 6

    Grigio Ingrid: 2

    Red (not sure which): 10

Silver or Gray (not sure which): 14

    Argento Nürburgring 101/C: 4

    Pozzi Blu: 4

    NART Blu: 2

    Rosso Scuderia: 2

    Rubino Micallizzato: 1

Moving on, I have 72 more 575Ms that are foreign spec or unknown spec. They break down as follows: Six manuals, 64 F1s, and two whose transmission type are unknown. Of those 72, 51 are European spec, 18 are RHD and three are an unknown spec. Those colors break down as follows:

    Titanium / Grigio Titanio: 6

    Black: 12

    Metallic Black: 7

    Mirabeau Blu: 1

    Rosso Corsa: 8

Red (not sure which one): 14

Silver (not sure which one): 5

    Unknown: 2

    Verde Zeltweg: 1

Argento Nürburgring: 3.5 (one was silver and then repainted blue)

Blue: 1.5 (was silver then repainted blue)

    Dark Blue: 2

    Rosso Scuderia: 4

    TdF: 1

    Canna di Fucile: 1

    Pozzi Blu: 1

    Grigio Alloy: 1

    NART Blu: 1

So the totals are 214 total 575Ms in 2004 (that I know of!), of which 24 are manual, 152 F1, and 38 whose transmission type are unknown. The total color breakdown is:
    Titanium / Grigio Titanio: 24

Silver or Gray (unspecified/not sure which one): 19

    Argento Nürburgring 101/C: 7.5

    Canna di Fucile: 1

    Unknown: 45

    Black: 31

    Metallic Black: 9

    Rosso Corsa: 23

Red (unspecified/not sure which one): 24

    Rosso Scuderia: 6

    Rubino Micallizzato: 1

    TdF: 7

    Pozzi Blu: 5

    NART Blu: 3

    Mirabeau Blu: 1

    Blue: 1.5

    Dark Blue: 2

    Grigio Alloy: 1

    Grigio Ingrid: 2

    Verde Zeltweg: 1

As promised, here are pics of the built-in radar detector.

Here is a pic of the interior - notice the "bass gain" knob at the end of the center console.
The knob has both an outer lower ring and taller inner knob.
The outer ring is the on/off, to the left is highway node, to the right is city mode.
The inner knob is squelch. Speaker volume I think is controlled by how much left or right you move the outer knob ring.

And the 2nd pic is the hidden radar detector lights in my gauges area of the dash.
The lights stay on for a second or so when the unit is first powered up.
I think the green light down low means the unit is on, the red light on left is radar detected in front, and red light on right is radar detected toward rear. It also beeps from a hidden speaker when radar is detected.

Very nice...The 19" wheels are a bg improvement in appearance. Can you go wider on the 305s in the rear?

Toggie- Looks great. From the side, almost impossible to distinguish from a 575M. If I remember, you got a really good deal on those wheels, too. They really dress up the car. Chris is still in business, too.

With your permission, will use your photos in the Maranello wheels thread Carbon and I will be doing.

Incidentally, I just found the perfect tire dressing. Does not make them too shiny, just makes them look new. Zaino Perfect Tire Gloss. Wash tires, let dry, and put just a little on a rag and rub in. Non-greasy, non-oily, and does not yellow like Armor-All and some other tire dressings.

Sure, permission granted on use of any and all photos (that I personally took with my camera) that I post on fchat (for everyone, for all time, for any purpose).

The only advantage to the old stock wheels on the 550 is they were easier to clean. The nuts & bolts & grooves on the modulars trap dirt where as the old stock wheels are mostly smooth areas of alloy metal.

I like these new tires a lot. I had Michelins before but not this type. I don't know how long they'll last but they are soft and sticky for now.

Anyone know if wider than 305 on the rear will fit on a 550?

The 305 rear tires look plenty wide when they're off the car. :)
