If I understand it correctly, the windshield motor needs constant 12V applied to it in order for it to turn. So, for the wiper to stop turning and park itself at the bottom of the windshield, the power has to be removed from the motor at the right time. That leads me to the question ... Is the "power removal function" being done with an electrical trickery via the X Relay in the footwell, or is it being done by a mechanical trickery via the swiper contacts inside the motor ?

There's a cam and an array of electrical contacts inside the motor assembly which do that.

Ok, so it's mechanical inside the motor. My motor works on High speed, and low speed, but the parking function is toast. Has anyone been able to fix the motor so it works again? Is there a tab that could be bent? A contact that is bad? Or ???

    Mitchell,

It's probably electrical. As these cars get older, the various electrical contacts become oxidized. I've had this happen to my 944 turbo's resistor bank controlling the fan speed. Wurth's Contact OL Electrical Cleaner Spray worked wonders. I've used it on the three door jamb switches on the 308 too. Clean the contacts managing the wiper speeds and park function. Your motor is working fine.

Worked on my 328 window switches and the thermostats that are integral parts of the resistor bank in my 944t.

Sometimes the the contact point that the cam pushes it open to stop the wiper for intermittent gets rusted out and breaks off. I have changed this a few times on my Lancias cause the motor is right underneath the hood vent.
