For the past two weeks, when I am driving on some bumpy roads the driver's side door comes ajar - not fully open, but not fully closed either. Also there are times when I try and close that door and it does not close shut. When the door is closed properly and I am driving it feels like the door is "trying" to come ajar - it just doesn't feel solidly shut like the right side door.

Don't know if this is related, but when I try and lock the doors with my key the door locks go down and then pop right back up.

    What do I do?

    Thanks

    Chip

Probably need to adjust the plate on the body of the car the locking pin fits into. Mark current position and try to get a feel for where it needs to go by watching to see if the pin is centered or not. Loosen the four Allen bolts but not too much, just enough to move the plate. Retighten and try the door shutting again. Find the spot that seems to shut with the least resistence and then try on the road. May be your hinge pins are worn and the door sags too much to correct so they may need replacement. Can be a pita I here, search for threads on that, mike tuason just did his , you can get the pins most places like rutlands, ricambi etc

The door lock has two springs on the cylinder operation, maybe one of them has gone astray??

I'd check this first before starting to rehang the door, but that is not a bad suggestion either and could well be the problem, but once it's latched, it should stay latched....that points to an inner door latch issue, IMO.

Check out how the helper springs work, you'll understand.

You are jumping into ownership with both feet!!

I had many of the same problems.....

....then the car caught on fire.

So get an extinguisher, maybe TWO.......LOL!

    I agree.
I'd first take a look at how well it closes in terms of hinge pins & strikers, but if that doesn't seem troublesome, take the door panel off.
I think I had something similar and it involved lubing and maybe disassembling some of the internal mechanisms.

I had a similar problem, and no adjusting the pin helped. Looked further and found that on that door the bottom hinge pin had broken. New pin and all was well again. Worth checking.

If the door lines up on the car, aligning the striker plate is pretty easy.

On mine, though, I have to clean and lubricate the latch mechanism once in a while, to keep the doors closed.

Hmmm... I'll have to second that! I didn't own a 308, but my first 928 had the rattling open door syndrome & suffered an engine fire not long after. Didn't have an extinguisher - thank goodness I was in a residential area & just used someone's garden hose to put it out with not TOO much damage done.
