then I decided to clean the wheels. That lead to me deciding to try and clean the wheel wells and surrounding areas. That lead to polishing a waxing the wheels. That lead to 2 nights in the garage (and Im only half done!)

I'm no pro at detailing, but I wanted to take a good look at the brakes and the sway bars etc. and might as well clean a bit while I'm in there right?! Where does the time go?

Am I the only one that gets sucked into expanding projects?

Here's some poor photos (I'm still working on the camera thing.) Trust me the wheel wells do look better after a lot of scrubbing and scraping, it's just hard to see from these.

You missed Armor-All'ing the tread on the tires.

Outside of that glaring error, it looks great!

That can be dangerous (slippery) and will not last long. Better to lower the car so the tread can't be seen much :)

PS. Chip, you really need to get the insides of those wheels a bit cleaner. I simply would not eat off of them more than one or two times.

Nice job on the rims, what did you clean them with? I decided to clean my 308 GTB and now I am on the third day and have 1/2 of the outside done. Next week I will start on the interior. Yours looks good. There is nothing like a clean Ferrari.

I end up doing the same thing. Sometimes it has gotten completely out of hand. More than once on my cars, I started detailing the engine, and ended up taking the entire engine and trans out of the car to complete the job!

BTW, is your wheel in your second to last picture bent, at around the 1:00 position in the picture?

"Obsessive-Compulsive Detailing". It's a tragic affliction. Perhaps an "Intervention" is needed here. Maybe a "Reality" show is in the future, featuring those so cursed.

    Where wife tells me

Yes -- it has. Dozens of times.

As a matter of fact, about nine years ago I was forced to start driving my wife's car, because my Corvette had been destroyed in Tropical Storm Allison (we were living in Houston, and my wife was on call at the hospital, so her Olds Intrigue was safe on the higher floors of the hospital parking garage.) Since she was always working, her car was always dirty...

So I woke up about a half-hour early to wash and vacuum the car before I went to the office. That half-hour wash turned into breaking out the Griot's clay bar, three-stage machine polish, wax...

Two hours later I strolled into the office finally aware that I inherited some of the family OCD, which as it turns out, is only triggered by small appearance projects (cleaning, touch-up painting.)

It happens to me everytime. I get scared to start a project 'cause I fear where the project will take me :)

The good news is your car looks terrific!

I missed your work when I searched. Your project looks awesome and dwarfs my little job. Now I am hooked and will find the time to do it right. Makes the car look new again. Thanks for the inspiration!

So I used Meguier's wheel cleaner and Klasse All in One. I switched back and forth and just kept scrubbing. I got 90% of the grime off but they will need another round sometime in the future. Afterwards I waxed the inside and outside of the wheels with two coats of a wheel was. In the past this seems to make it easier to get the brake dust and dirt off the wheels during simple car washing.

    Good luck.

So I have been searching for what to do to with the beat up wheel bolts. Seems to be a debate about replating (makeing them brittle, etc.) But $300 bucks for new ones? Really?!

To make the pictures smaller I generally email them (to myself) using Outlook. It gives me the option of making them smaller, then I save them from the email into a separate folder of "small pictures"...upload from there.

    Chip,

You can adjust the size of your picture files by opening them with Microsoft office picture manager and clicking on the "Edit Pictures" tab, a new window pops up where you would select "compress pictures". Another new window pops up where you can select what you are compressing for. Save your new compressed file with a new name and you can then attach it to your thread.

    Hope this helps,
    Bob

OBTW ... yeah I always start one job that leads to a bunch of other "might as wells")

    Bobby -

Thanks for the photo guidance. Hopefully we can meet up sometime around VA Beach this summer. That would be a fun drive in the 308 when I take a break from the projects!

Chip, mine are in the process of getting rechromed. It was only $80 for the whole set, but unfortunately they're now telling me it's going to take 2 weeks. www.chromeplatingusa.com

I'm not even the least bit concerned about them getting brittle...if one breaks off I'll eat it.
