sometimes theres no choice, there u are arriving in the rain in your tux, hotel entrance is packed full of cars waiting for valet to park them, its just not possible to say youll wait for them to direct u to the space for u to park (in the melee of double or triple parked cars) theyll also demand for the key anyway as they will inevitably have to move the car at some point, in such situations the self park parking is also sure to be full, with cars queuing to get in.

i NEVER give my keys to the loser ... i always insist on keeping them, & they agree once they c they r not gonna get to drive yr ride ...

remember, insurance does NOT cover valet's ...... & for good reason ... it's like giving a monkey a hammer ... everything starts to look like a nail ...

Btw, can't use guys switch to neutral & start the car then engage? Thought it'll be better for the clutch/starter motor.

That makes two of us. Even when I had my Mini, I always parked it myself, not that the valets were interested for that matter.

The way the cars get treated by these guys scare the hell out of me. Have seen an auto car reversing, still rolling back and these guys just throw the stick into Drive. Not good at all!

Uhh...I think we are supposed to leave it in 1 before turning off. It makes an awful warning noise if you switch off in N.

    Yep

    Yep too.

Well, at least for my Gallardo. If my memory serves me right, we're supposed to leave it in 1st to switch off or there's warning beeps then switch to neutral before I fire her up.

Guess it's a safety feature so that the car don't roll in neutral if you don't pull the handbrake.

I think the 599 defaults to neutral. I usually park it in neutral, but when I attempted to park it in 1st while on a slope, it simply went back to neutral when I turned the car on again. Plus it didn't seem to have any effect and the car still rolled backwards (this was when my handbrake wasn't working very well at all when we first got the car).

In fact, when the car is idle at a traffic light for too long, it will switch to neutral for you if you had stayed in first.

Yup, I always change it to neutral.
