anyone knows the weight of the stock 288 muffler? the megafono is indeed light at just a bit over 18 lbs i would love to know what kind of weight saving you can get from exhaust on this model as a reference: i know the ANSA SPORT shave over 60 lbs on countach and around 65! lbs on a diablo
Emilio I think you are saving about 45 lbs but we will have to weigh one to be sure. But just the sound enhancement alone is enough reason to have the megaphone pipes!
Here are some great shots of Chris Evans' collection taken by BensonChiu. http://www.flickr.com/photos/bensonpschiu/sets/72157623806699190/ His awesome, white GTO... http://www.flickr.com/photos/bensonpschiu/4512328650/in/set-72157623806699190/

Mr Massini, your knowledge about Ferrari is perfect and amazing. It not in doubt. But why other source tells different about the same car? What true info about 288 GTO Prototype 47649? You early wrote about this car: “S/N 47649 Gearbox number 282. 5th Prototype. Black interior. Originally with no air conditioning and manual windows. Used for road and endurance tests. Pictured in Auto Capital, No.3/5 dated May 1984. Raised section on the engine cover just behind the rear window between the compartment opening and the central grill. Later modified by the factory with air conditioning and power windows. The car was then repainted yellow and was one of only three 288 GTOs in 1989 which were not the traditional racing red (the others were S/N 54225 and 56335 which were both painted silver grey metallic). Sold by the factory to their official dealership in Modena, Motor SrL. Observed on June 11, 1989 at the Ferrari Club Italia meeting, "Sports and prototype Ferraris" at the autodromo Enzo and Dino Ferrari at Imola, Italy with 1,790 kms on the odometer and plates, "PROVA MO 1839". Race number 134. Right rear view mirror was missing, car was still yellow. During 1990 the second outside right rear view mirror was fitted by Motor SrL. Observed at the factory in Maranello on October 30, 1995, still owned by Motor Srl., still painted yellow, but now on Italian plates, "MO 846288". June 1997 seen during the 50th Anniversary meeting of Ferrari in Modena. February 2003 for sale through Motor Srl. with 9’616 kms. 2006 still for sale. Marcel Massini” Here is RM Auctions description from 2007: “THE FACTORY PROTOTYPE AND THE ONLY ORIGINAL GIALLO FLY EXAMPLE Chassis 47649 thus remains the only development car in existence and its prototype status is the reason it is not listed as one of the 272 production examples built. The car was owned by Ferrari until 1987 when a special Ferrari customer succeeded in buying it. It has the very desirable four-point seat belts and fire extinguishing system, both of which were required for testing. It has just 9,650 km, almost all of which were undertaken by Ferrari test drivers. Today, the car remains in excellent original condition, and has benefited from a recent service by Ferrari’s Classiche department. Any of the 272 production 288 GTOs would be a rare find today. The sole surviving factory prototype makes it arguably the most important of all. Furthermore, all the production cars were finished in Corsa Red, making this prototype in Giallo Fly (yellow) instantly recognizable as the birth of a legend.” So, is RM’s description b.s.? 47649 was originally red, not yellow, car was sold to Modena srl, not to special Ferrari customer, in 1989 car has 1,790 kms on the odometer and 9,650 km in 2007 an almost all of which were NOT! undertaken by Ferrari test drivers. What true info???
If you've always wanted a stable of white Ferraris including a white 288 GTO, you may be in luck... Image Unavailable, Please Login
In the RM Auctions description you posted, it states: "The car was then repainted yellow..." because it wasn't yellow to begin with - which is no secret by the way. Additionally, perhaps the owner of Modena Motor SrL is the "special customer" ? Image Unavailable, Please Login
Likely to be at the opening of the Ferrari Store on Regent Street, but not on Regent Street in this image. Paul
Imagine walking down the stairs in the morning. Trying to get rid of the last bit of sleep. You'll be wide awake when you lay eyes on this beauty! Gr. Martin
I had a great day with my car. Raining in HK so I undertook some spring cleaning. Removed my spare tyre and tools, cleaned everything etc. Then I decided to remove my seats and give them a heavy dose of hide food. Only takes a few minutes to undo 4 metric 6 bolts per seat and the seats are so light and small that it is easy to do myself. Removing the seats makes cleaning the entire cockpit a breeze. Car is just so super beautiful
