Hi all, I'm in the process of reconditioning some outer trim pieces on my coupe and have run into a jam. The first picture shows the trim I'm talking about. Removing the door gasket and the screws that hold it on are easy, but the problem comes when you get to the quarter window (second photo) It looks to me as if you need to remove the quarter window to get to the final 3 screws or so that hold the trim in place. Does anyone have any suggestions? Regards, Pete Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Without seeing the car in person, it's difficult to tell. However, my gut reaction is that that trim piece would be the last item installed, therefore the first item removed. Have you checked the parts manual for the car? It should provide an exploded view of that area, which may be helpful in showing how it's attached. Ray
Wouldn't know. We have probably refinished between 50 and 100 of those and have never removed one. Sand, mask, paint. Taking lots of things apart that do not need to be taken apart often leads to trouble, especially in the hand built world.
Agreed...Once one of those mouldings are removed, no matter what car you working on, they never go back the same...You may be in for some disapointment and frustration once you try to fit it back together.
+1 I removed the chrome molding once on my Datsun so that I could repaint the car. That was the last time the car had that particular part on it Ray
Well, the final answer was as described here. To get this trim off on the Modena coupe the quarter window needs to be removed. It is glued in. Kind of a silly design move but not the first time, eh? I just refinished the trims on the car. After taking 2 hours to mask the whole thing, it turned out quite nicely. Thanks for the help guys!
