What does the signage "Made with China" at the Chinese Grand Prix mean? Just a problem with a translation, or something else? . . . .

It's either Engrish, or they are trying to change the meaning of "Made in China" to "Made WITH China" to imply they are your willing partners in global commerce as opposed to just a manufacturing hot spot.

Since this event is so huge, I really would doubt it's simply Engrish. My .02

Not Engrish this time - it's intentional. :)

To me it translates as caveat emptor.

It means they can't sell enough tickets to fill the stands so they came up with a marketing idea to save face.

Yeah ok, should have read, made with slave labor. We keep wanting to pay cheaper and cheaper prices here, then complain when the drywall is toxic, parts on Toyota's brakes fail that were made there, etc.. We now owe and buy practically everything from communist china and now are going to outsource or space needs to russia, WTF is happening to us?

i noticed that the "with" part has substantially tighter kerning than that rest of it. it appears that it originally was designed to say "made IN china" and they changed it.

    1) You're mistaken

    2) P&R is up there ^^^^, and we're having an intelligent discussion about China right now, coincidentally. Feel free to join in.

    I think it sounds terrible.

"Made with China" What? So all the crap we buy that is made in China has bits of actual china in it? Is that why it breaks so often because it has porcelain in it?

Believe it or not I do understand the " intelligent discussion " you are having on the nuances of made in china/made with china, but aside from that, to dismiss my comment
because it went in another direction? I guess with all that's made oh, exuse me , with communist china, you'd think there would be more chinese in the stands.

No, the intelligent discussion I am talking about is in P&R in a thread called "Inside the Microsoft Sweatshop" or something where your exact point is being debated... and you're subscribed so you could see it there and participate if this is a topic of interest - since P&R are not supposed to be part of the F1 section.

I said you are mistaken because I disagree with your point. Slave labor is not wide spread in China, and your claim that we owe and buy practically everything from China isn't true (USA has more manufacturing than China, for example). But, I doubt people come to the F1 section for P&R, so why not join the discussion there on this topic?

Agreed this is the wrong section, so I'll continue this debate with you there instead.

Surely if China want to show a more intergrated image with the rest of the world, a good first step would be to clamp down on all the counterfeit goods, blatant design rip offs and to start recognising peoples world wide trade marks?.

As for the sign, I agree with robert_c :

For those who don't recall, it was actually the same story for those seats in turn 1 last year, but the advertisement was different.

Makes me wonder if they'll really be on the calender next year. They're losing so much of money, yet Bernie so easily can assure that they'll be on the calender next year then blame them for not marketing the event properly.

First thing that came to mind when I saw that before I did a double take on the word in the middle.

Well if Bernie goes through with what he said on TV on Sunday ALL the races will be in China because of the Icelandic volcanic ash. He said that if they can't get back to Europe they'll hold the rest of the season's races in China (or should that be 'with' China!)!
