I am surprised that Ferrari has not posted lap times at the Fiorano track.

So am I. The 16M & 458 are already there. Are they trying to hide it? It can't be that bad... should be close to the 430 I guess.

Thanks! I checked out this site too!

At a lot of the tracks, the Cali fares pretty well. About the same speed or faster than the Audi R8. At Vaiorano, the Cali was faster than the 360, the alfa 8C, the Ford GT, and a number of porsches.

Would be really interesting to see how it compares with the othe F Cars at Fiorano.

My wife doesn't want me to put our California on a track when it arrives at the end of June. She reckons it's "far too civilised!" It's been a few years since I regularly enjoyed track days at UK circuits such as Brands Hatch and Silverstone. I was very fortunate to have a gentleman named Jan Churchill as my personal tutor and friend. Jan used to own the Welsh Rally Drivers School and was a well-known competitor in 911s in the 70s. He discovered and trained Richard Burns (sadly deceased) who became the world rally champion. When I had a Porsche 993 RS (which I was stupid to sell because it has doubled in value), Jan taught me how to do handbrake turns on hairpin bends. Of all the cars I have owned and used on trackdays (911s, 355, 355F1, 360 and a Porsche 959), the 355 gave me the greatest pleasure, although nothing could compete with the 959 down the straights. My 355 was the first Ferrari Richard Burns ever drove and I recall him saying, "I wish I could afford a car like this", to which I replied (not knowing who he was), "You will" as a realised I was in the presence of a worldclass driver. Anyway, I digress. We are lucky to have several trackday companies in the UK that include the California in their stable of cars (eg http://www.experiencemad.co.uk/Super-Car-Driving-Days/ferrari-california-plus-experience-7017/), so I'll try out one of theirs instead of my own. I certainly would like to hear from California owners how their cars perform on tracks.

http://www.pelicanparts.com/stories/baker.htm contains some photos and personal experiences. I ran the 959 as my everyday car. I think I was the only person to put a 959 on a track. Great fun but ruined a set of expensive run-flat street tyres and the tyre-pressure monitoring sensors. Porsche wanted £20k to replace the sensors, so I decided to sell the car. Fortunately, I enjoyed almost 18k miles in it over two years. The only car that has come close to its performance has been the 612 which I ran for 10 months (and 10k miles) but have now sold in anticipation of getting the California.

I didn't drive it on the track, but I did drive along with a professional race-car driver on Spa-Francorchamps. When I asked how the California behaves on the track he replied 'it's fantastic!'. He drove like a mad-man in race mode while it was raining all the time (6 cars crashed that day, of which one had fatal consequences) and in particular he liked the gear box.

It's great that you can have a car with which you can drive comfortably around with the roof open, and drive around tracks with better lap times than a 360 Modena (the car I drive myself). I'd love to trade the 360 for the California.

Fastest Laps has posted a new lap time at Maccoussis in France. The California did pretty well. It was a little faster than the F430. The Scuderia was the fastest car at that track. Still wanting to see some times at Fiorano.
