NOT a big fan of the appearance, but I will admit to liking the black very much. I also saw a white in person and it was surprisingly stunning.

Nice. New those trees looked familiar; I thought it was Houston before I even looked at your local.

Ok, well for starters, the BMW E60 M5 can beat it. Top speed (delimited) of 204 mph (Panamera is a sloth like 188 mph). HP is the same at 500 HP. BMW has V10, Porsche is V8. BMW will haul 5 adults and their luggage. M5 only half as ugly as the Panamera and MSRP starts $50k less.

When the new F10 M5 is out, it won't even be a close contest.

    Anyway...you were saying?

    Pretty damn debatable IMO.

Edit: Checks Other Cars owned: Oh okay, now I get it.

    Beautiful 355, THOUGH!

Hey, again, I like Porsche, but saying others "don't get close"?

Man, like the gent above says the M5 is there (and priced well), and I believe the 604HP & 738 ft-lbs S65 is there (albeit for more money), and I think my Renntech is beyond there (not fair though as its not stock?). I will concede that the less than stellar performing AM wont touch you, and the Mazer cant hold a candle for sure. I think the Pana is a great performer that beats a lot of good sedans & can match some great sedans. I am certain you will luv it and enjoy it for a sedan as much as I enjoy my sedan.

    Very,very debatable.
    Is it quicker?
Not a chance, not in straight line, not in corners....

I did think about it since a Cadillac CTS-V spanked it's butt, http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/sedans/112_0907_bmw_m5_cadillac_ctsv_comparison/results.html . And you were saying?

Rick- Let me see, come on a thread where the owner has graciously shown us his new car. Bad-mouth it thoroughly, say a BMW is better (do not like BMWs at all, personally), a Caddy is better, etc.

Always thought it was bad manners to badmouth someone else's $140K car. You feel differently?

Maybe your mother did not teach you the same thing mine did. If you cannot say something nice, and you are commenting on a subject for which you have no credibility with your audience, you should really refrain from commenting at all. Only a personal opinion, of course.

This is FerrariChat, not a Nissan or Honda forum.

Nice 355, by the way. Except for the fake shield.

GD- Thanks for being a gentleman is this discussion.

Well having owned I do not know maybe 20 BMW's (I always own one of their sedans), including M5s,'and the last M was my insanly moded 07 M6, I can say that the Porsche 4 door is faster, handles way, way better, and I may still not like its look, but it is the best 4 door drivers car in the world. I say enjoy your car, and it they do make a coupe version, I'll probably end up with one.

Comments like yours just go to the show that even on as respectable a forum as FChat, there still exist low mannered buffoons.

To OP, congratulations! Heard from friends that it's a great car; hope you enjoy it! Incredibly quick for what it is as well.

Please keep us updated with impressions :)

First off, Michael the Mercedes AMG 65 is a fine automobile and the Renntech modified one is a Giant step up on the car. I have owned six Mercedes and my favorite was my SL55, liked it better then my SL63. Maybe close is too strong a word. To the rest of you, automobiles are very personal by nature or at least they should be. I think some of the bashing of the Panamera, lots from Porsche owners themselves, is short sighted. The ugly and too many button stories are getting old. When I went looking for a more suitable family car(4 doors), at least that's what I told the wife, I looked at the new AM, BMW, Mercedes, Porsche and Bentley. Each has its great points and minus points. I settled on the Panamera as the best all around fit for me. Most beautiful, certainty not. Ugly, certainly not. Too many buttons, maybe. Most new and refreshing interior, I say yes. And the list could go on. I often say to my car nut friends when we argue about this and that on cars; A car is like a good piece of art work, it's what the artist is trying to convey. You have to understand the artist before you can understand the art work. I once owned a restored Edsel and loved it too. Wish I never had sold it.

Hmm, I'm not entitled to an opinion?

Sorry, but when the OP says "what can beat it" - he invites the comparisons and criticism. FWIW, I'm not the only one that has said it's ugly and over priced. I may be the only one that said it's slow - which is simply a fact when discussing top speed as compared to the M5.

If you don't want your feelings hurt, go post on a Porsche chat forum.

The OP says - "Hey, look at my cool car - nothing can touch it". I reply with - "well, hold on there a minute" - and list a number of facts which are simply the truth. Then the OP fires back with your M5 sucks b/c a Caddy can beat it around a randomly selected track. Now, somehow, I'm the bad guy here?? Unqualified to join the discussion...rotflmao.

Sorry I pissed in everyone's Cheerios with the truth.

Thanks for the back handed compliment Taz (did your momma teach you that?).

PS OP - my previous criticisms aside, I do think the Panamera is a cool ride (especially the interior). Obviously, I have a penchant for "distinctively" designed cars that elicit emotional responses - being an owner of an M5. I can certainly appreciate what it takes to own such a special car. Enjoy it in good health...just don't try to outrun a delimited M5 on the Autobahn. :D

Rick- Personal opinion only. You have acted like a jerk and are one of the reasons many people think Ferrari owners are posterior orifices. Grow up. GD has been vey patient with you, even though there was no reason to put up with your infantile crap.

Strong message follows if you keep attempting to justify yourself and your clearly immaterial prejudices.

In case this was not clear enough for you and your obvious lack of perception, you and your manners suck.

If you would like us to take an informal poll of those on this thread to see whether you are, in fact, a candidate for a personal scatalogical reference, let me know. Done on my Blackberry, so sorry if I was not completely clear on what I meant or had errors in spelling.

    +100

the porsche has the same power as the m5 but it gets to 100 kph half a second quicker and it is almost 1 ton heavier

i like how he says the m5 is a better car buy bringing up the only point in which the m5 is better , top end speed , but come on .......who in there right mind would ever drive the car at that speed in the usa , where you both live ??

I think the new Prius Twin Turbo with 424 HP might be able to match it.

    Almost.

Not to mention, the Prius TT would be lots more fun with Twin Turbos pushing that unintended acceleration.

The Panamera seems like the perfect compromise for a sports sedan. It is practical yet unique and since it is a Porsche should hold up well. The Rapide is beautiful and the QP definitely has presense, but the Porsche has an interior better than either and looks very good to my eye.

Time will tell how long sales hold up for each version of the Panamera, but it definitely is a car a family could use and enjoy. I would expect it to have fairly precipitous depreciation about the same as the Cayenne. Picked up a CTT over the weekend, what a car!

I know the Panamera Turbo has to be incredible and the S would be enjoyable to drive as well, but the one I would look forward to is the V6 AWD (assuming the interior is of equal quality and not significantly cheapened over the other two). The reports I read were that it would get nearly 30 mpg on the highway and have 300 hp. That would be plenty for me as a DD and still could be used economically for a long commute. Find one in four years for 50% of MSRP or less.
