Going over my spec and trying to rationalize all the options. When it was all said and done I added 30k in extra bits and I'm starting to feel like maybe I could do without a few of them and not miss anything. Specifically thinking about getting rid of the nav option.

how do you guys feel about this feature? i don't plan on driving long distances in unknown areas and of course always have my iphone and/or portable garmin i could use for those rare instances. I am also thinking of deleting scuderia shields and red calipers. If I get rid of those three I save 6k and feel better that I am being somewhat controlled, while still getting the key stuff i want (racing seats, sport wheels, carbon wheel, alcantara)

This would be my spec as it stands:

    Rosso scuderia / Nero interior
    Red constrast stitch
    Racing Seats
    Shields
    Calipers Red
    Sport Wheels painted Grey
    Sill Cover
    Carbon Steering Wheel
Alcantara seat centers, headliner, door panel
    Ipod
    Nav

Yes, I will be. I plan on driving it a lot and Nav does come in handy.

Honestly, 6 K on a car that will run you close to 300 grand out the door sounds pretty insignficant. But, you should get what you want.

I specified NAV to get Bluetooth and MIH2 to get Homelink.
On another matter I got an invite to the Boardwalk Dallas unveiling on April 28, any other dealer presentations of the 458 in the USA

I did not order the NAV. Everywhere I go in the Ferrari I KNOW where I'm going. I might throw the portable Garmin in the car if I'm ever in doubt. The NAV in the Ferrari is small and hard to see from the passenger seat.

I hear that - it is insignificant. But there is a psychological element to feeling like you are getting value for money ..

If you are planning to ever sell the car the lack of shields could be an issue...

True. Probably keeping the shields. The nav was really the one where I wonder if I will ever use it, and if it will be any good to begin with ..

I understand but my comment was that the OP says he's cutting it and shields and some other things to save 6K. Out of the total money spent, it seems 6K is not much to worry about -- unless you really don't want them.

And, that's fine. Buy what makes you happy. That's what's important.

NAV is a $250 option from GARMIN, TomTom, ..... Even the top of the line NAV is only $600

Before you criticise Ferrari too much, remember that a Nav system in a 3 series BMW will cost you $2100.

Personally, I'd rather have it integrated into the electronics than have a separate device fumbling around the interior. But, that's just me.

Sorry I misread the OP. I agree 100% with you about relative prices to other cars. Garmin in a 458 is laughable. NAV is also the only way to get Bluetooth phone. Any 458 presentations in California. I can't make Dallas off to Barcelona and the GP

I passed on the Nav. It's a little screen tucked into the gauge cluster. A $100 Nuvi will work for the few times I may need it. The 458 is one car I won't mind getting lost in.

The more "goodies" you get in the car, the easier it will be to make it a daily driver and get your money's worth out of it.

Anecdote: I had a 2009 911 with bluetooth and navigation and a 2006 F430. While driving the F430, I got a phone call. I kept waiting for the non-existent bluetooth to pick up until the caller gave up. I had things on my mind, I suppose, but once you get used to a convenience, it's hard to go back to not having it.

There were times I took the 911 because of the options. I think it will be good to have everything in the 458 that can be considered a convenience.

If luggage is available, I wonder if anyone is ordering it, and if so, will it ever be used?

I passed on the nav on the 458. Not because of price but functionality: if I am driving on roads I don't know and therefore need a nav, I want to have the position of the numerous fixed radars as well as the most frequent positions for mobile radars, which my TomTom gives perfectly, for 300 euros.
Yes, it is ugly and less convenient to have an independent nav system, but it saved me my driving license several time when driving my Audi S4....

I opted for the radio/navi blootooth and new JBL sound system. Has anyone heard the new stereo yet?

Quality of a sound system in a car like 458 is pointless anyway, with all the engine "music" subtlety of high performance ,high bucks system is lost.

Unfortunately I have to agree with that statement. I am not a big fan of shields. But when I went to the 458 Picture thread I could only find one out of all the pics of a car w/o shields. I don't like to think of resale when it comes to cars, but I will probably have to go with the flow on this front. Shields don't make the car more valuable just more desirable to the market.

I am not going to opt for the Nav nor upgraded stereo. These are not Ferrari strongpoints and might even become a maintenance issue in the future. If it fails count on a $3k fix.

Going to the factory May 3rd to see the different colors/interiors before placing my order.

+1 - any sound system but the engine is wasted IMO
