Didn't know where that whistle sound was coming from, but I absolutely love that sound! It appears most F-chatters don't like it.

Thought the sound was coming from the air intake damper (the large disk that floats in the intake system).

I live in Hawaii and F cars a very few and far between. My 83 Mondial QV Cab just rattles folks as it whistles by them - especially in a mountain tunnel!

Perhaps the sound I get is unusually strong - but in my case it definitely means "racing form" to me.

That sound is part of the reason I keep the car - and spend dollars on it! Of course, the Grigio with black leather and original one-place zippered leather cover really does let me cruise around at night almost incognito! Fun!

Birdman: How thick was the stainless steel that you used? Thanks in advance.

Could use a few pics. Sorry to resurrect this old thread but I couldn't find any templates of designs that would work. Perforate and roll the SS inserts isn't that difficult but I would like to see a picture of one that worked well, if it's out there.
    Thanks

Sorry no pics but, don't perforate the inserts. You can wrap the spring steel around a broom handle or something similar to the ID of the exhaust tips. Insert and they should expand to hold them tightly in place. I believe 6 inches in length should be sufficient.

Sorry guys I hear NOTHING in the MP3. Can you give me the starting numbers (seconds) into the piece where the chirp begins.

Being over 50% deaf across the board and 100% at a few freqs is a problem sometimes. :(

    Thanx in Advance

My advice: turn your hearing aids off and you won't hear the high pitched sounds...yet still enjoy the rumble of the engine....works for me ;=)

I almost never wear mine as my ears destroy them fairly fast.

    At $6K a pair ...... that is 355 territory. :D

Besides there is always lots going on around me I'd really rather NOT Hear. :)

My car only makes the slightest bit of the noise. I don't mind it, sounds exotic.

18 gauge should work if you have some laying around. Give it a try, the main thing is that the steel should spring into place tightly when inserted in the exhaust tips.

Gotcha. Thanks for the tip (little humor). I'll try and take a few pics and post later.

Perhaps it's because I haven't been to a lot of auto races, but it sounds more like "someone stuck a whistle in my tailpipe" to me.

I'm glad this thread popped up! I'll be making a set this weekend.

If anyone else in Nor Cal wants a set PM me and I'll churn out a few more. Will trade for beer :)

This was a post by a member not sure who.
    He illustrated the whole process.
I think he used 26 gauge?
