Hey Jim, sure it's been asked some time ago, but i can't remember: where did most of the additional weight savings--compared to the Enzo--come from? changing hard parts to higher quality/lighter wgt materials? redesign/repackaging? it's quite remarkable how much more 'compact' the P4/5 is (wgt and dimension wise). also, any time frame as to when you'll be finally painting her Nero ??? thanks,
She's smaller/more compact and built with lighter stronger materials. We're going to redo her front sub frame in carbon to take even more weight off. I've come to like her paint a lot and will keep her painted as she is. The official scale model is still in the ozone.
Do you think P4/5 will ever be "complete" or will you continually tinker with her? And, I'm glad to hear you won't be switching to black paint - brighter colors are always better. All the best, Andrew. PS: I just had a thought... if you're lightening the front subframe by changing materials, are you doing anything to lighten the back to compensate? If not, would that move the weight distribution significantly rearwards and change the handling characteristics?
thanks! i've always wondered the same, if someone should 'redo' a Carrera GT, how much weight could be saved. perhaps not as extensive as P4/5, but i'd imagine a couple hundred pounds would be in order. heck getting rid of that 90lb muffler system would do wonders right away. as for the color change..you can always 'wrap' her in nero, and say, bring her to Colorado sometime this is one of the few cars today that i must see in person at some point.
...something tells me there's been one or two people who have posed the same question here once or twice. _J
Getting Air is fun but after landing the diffuser fins do need to be checked and repaired as necessary. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Just what happens if these cars are driven. High down force, bumpy roads they kiss the ground at times.
Jim, From the look of the service pic, the front subframe is already aluminum (unless I'm missing something and that's just the mounting point for the radiator). Is there really that much weight to lose by going from carbon to aluminum for such a piece? Or is it more of a structural integrity thing? ...Or are you just tinkering to tinker... Cheers. M
That's a DOT crash structure so it has more to it that you can see. Our new structure will be lighter/stronger/and have better cooling capacity for her oil. On extreme track days we want that. That said we do like to tinker. Eric she'll be ready next week.
this car would be a great book with big full color pics of the building/testing/and developing of this piece of art,,i'll buy the first copy, signed of course
