A while back I made a post regarding my father in-law's '82 911sc. Well, after sitting in a waterlogged barn for many years, it's coming back to life. To all of those who said it would cost more to restore than it is worth....man were you right! The motor, running gear and electrical work is all done, but at a cost that came to probably 6-7/10ths of what nicely sorted sc would cost to buy. But, at the end of the day, it's worth it. What a fun car to drive. I'm amazed at how strong that flat six is all things considered. This is first classic Porsche that I've ever had the opportunity to drive and I am hooked. What a great driving experience. Bringing it home, I couldn't stop smiling. My wife absolutely loves driving it as well and I think it brings back some good memories for her.

Up next, paint and body work. As you'll see in the pics, definately needs some more work, and I'm sure from a purely financial standpoint, the costs will outpace the value of what an existing, well sorted car would be, but it's worth in terms of sentimental value.

It's about having fun more than how much it costs.

A pal of mine just sold his 40k mile 1983 911 S/C for $30,000.00 - On that note I proclaim there is nothing wrong with spending a little money on a 911SC. :) Good for you.

Change out the US spec headlights with the Euro H4 units.........you'll have better vision at night, and the car will also look much better.

    Old 911's are fun........

Or don't. Many (most) think they look a LOT better without. Keep it like he had it.

Well, most of us are in the business of giving rational car advice and then doing something else anyway.

Thanks all. I like the looks of the whale tail, but think we'll leave the original lid as is...for now anway. The euro headlights do look much better. I'll have to look into that. The car also needs to be lowered which from what I've read, seems pretty simple...a few cranks of the torsion bars. Looking forward to some motoring this summer.

The best part is that my wife is hooked. The other day she even said that maybe an "old" (think 308) Ferrari would be fun!
