There were about 6000 Troopers harvesting the highway today.
There was one unmarked white car in the southbound side near (exit 57), shooting radar into the northbound traffic, and the rest were on the north bound side collecting road use taxes.

According to a local, they have been busy recently.
(That must be why I feel so much safer now)

    FERRARI CONTENT

I passed an "arrest me red" 360, doing about 60 in the 65 zone.
(If you are here, smart move!)
    AND
There was a vintage (early 60's?) Ferrari being flat bedded in the north bound lanes.

Going down to C&C this morning about 8:00am I saw two troopers with guests on the north bound side.

Coming back from C&C about 10:00am I only saw one in the median shooting southbounders.

But with all the nice weather, no doubt their harvesting speeders.

The tax collectors were queued up on the right back down an entrance ramp, out of sight.

There is something intrinsically wrong with a speed limit where 85% (or more) are breaking it.

One shot me when I was going about 85 yesterday around that area...however I was driving our Buick Enclave at the time so I was safe :) Not sure how I would have fared in the 360.... it is dumb being as everyone is going that fast on a weekend morning (light traffic, 3-4 lanes of open flat smooth highway, etc...)

the Rt 208 / I-287 split in Oakland/ Franklin Lakes is very dangerous. Cars can't figure out which way they need to go. Cars cut across 4 lanes of traffic to get over...its a nightmare.

As for the troopers in the area, its called a "Tac-Pac", tactical patrol, bosses/supervisors locate an area where there is several complaints (from motorists, DOT workers), high volume of accidents and they saturate it with officers.

Not making an excuse for the officers but just trying to shed a little light....

PS: I-287 corridor is worse than Rt 21 for speeding motorcycles, the majority of the post 1990 construction is concrete instead of asphalt, hence less pitting/potholes

Re the split - I guess the rationalization is that Better Signage would cost money, but giving citations is a profit center.

The Tax collection station was several miles before the split, but conveniently located on a downhill section of road, where traffic, under the influence of gravity, picks up speed.

I commute right through that corridor almost everyday, it's a nightmare. It's even worse when there is a strong police presence. Don't get me wrong, I am a big supporter of the police, but in high traffic areas of NJ, cops and/or rain adds a half hour to my commute!

That would have been me in the red 360 - depending upon what time it was, I was either heading up to or back from WWOC in Nanuet. And yes, I too was completely shocked at that trooper situation. It was unreal! When I first saw it, I has heading northbound, saw the white trooper on the southbound side - didn't think too much about it - luckily I was behind an Audi A5 I believe - who must have crapping himself (I know I was) because after we passed the Skyline drive entrance, the trooper pulled out - he ended up pulling over a Brown Suburban behind us.

Other than creating a scene, I don't see how that "Tac-Pac" promotes safer driving. Seriously - the speed limit on 287 should be bumped to 75MPH - there is NO ONE that does 65MPH on it - NO ONE, unless it's raining or heavily congested. I drive it every day.
