Usually on the overrun, when you release your accelerator, unburnt fuel travels down the exhaust pipes, and get burnt up along the way as the pipes are hot. This backfire creates the delightful popping sounds we hear. Excellent... Usually after changing to aftermarket exhausts we get to hear more of it, mainly because they have less insulation.

Huh??? I didn't read but that is back peddling or the Green effect doing it's work? And what was the reason for them banning turbo chargers in F1 few decades ago.....

I don't know but they are supposed to be from Bilstein B16s which works with the PASM & adjustable height (I'd like to lower the car). If I'm not wrong, 16 ways while the KW has 21 but no PASM. More than what I'll ever need but I'd like to have the front lifter fitted & Techart refuses to sell just the lifter :(

I can of course fit lowering springs from H&R but my front is already scrapping as it is & need to dial out the damping rate to match. It is said that the stock is too firm & some compliant the rebound too long.

I'll monitor it again on the return leg on NS.

Shawn, are u referring to my article? Currently, I hear loose metal articles "dancing" in the exhaust box & only during idle, not overrun which don't sound like backfire for sure & tuner supposed to lean it as he compliant that is was 20% rich while on idle. Unless they are backfire of miniature scale!

    Interesting thought.

Are your cats damaged? Basically get someone to follow your car when you are on the N-S (but not too close!!), if little metal shards come out of the exhaust at hard acceleration it could be your cats basically de-catting themselves.... other wise may just be loose mounting points on the exhaust.

Agree... if the car has gone on tune I would have thought they would lean it out a bit more in general... btw Jon... leaning out an engine too much can lead to serious problems with your engine block----ie: blow it up, so there will always still be some richness and fuel left unburnt for safety reasons so some back fire is a healthy thing....

Another interesting thought. Didn't know that the CAT will disintegrate on it's own? I had one of my ceramic coated CAT turned red hot in my Murcie cos one of the ECU died & sent too much fuel to one bank but it survived. That was one scary night!

Anyway, I'll be out for 2 weeks so car will be sent in for stone chip touch up & check-up as well. Will forward all info from u guys to them.

A hia, did u read Forza #98? There's an article in there about an ex USAF surgeon who upgraded his Mondial to carburetors etc. as the stock distributor is very unreliable, expensive & power sucking.

I can pass it to you if u don't have. Issue cover is the 430 16M.

then most likely some of the cells in your cat has broken off and come loose. It's not likely to be a problem, just that your air may be mariginally dirtier (not a problem) and you're going to be irritated by this kind of low-class rattling noise. Hopefully it's just a loose mounting, which can be easily tightened. If not, then the next best thing is to remove the cats, give them a good shake, and hope all these little metal bits fall out and then reinstall the cats. Or best, remove everything inside the cat and enjoy another 30bhp. Hope your rear bumber isnt white. My last de-cat car was white. It turned yellow. A sure-fire LTA magnet.

Twin turbo sounds good provided the old chassis, engine & trans can take it but annual inspection will be a PITA. Think it was done before either by Carobu or Norwood. Worth a check.

Hahaha thank goodness I have a yellow car but Good idea. Will get em to pull it off & check. They are of course trying to sell me a high-flow system with lower cell Cats. Some or in fact most of those aft mkt cats screw up the sensors in our cars & show up on the dash which needs slight modifications to overcome.

I just had the centre box of the 456 removed & it sounds beefier! Just hope that I won't have a boomy cabin effect

Yup that's what autoblog reported too. The FIA is also considering the proposed use of turbine propulsion in 2013..

You sound a little bit like my mom :)... she is a hypercondriac... she always thinks something is wrong with her or thinks she is sick when she is perfectly fine. :D

After a while you begin to hear things when they are not there... just to let you know it happens to me too.. its in my genes :D :D :D
