Hawkeye's post about how the F40 brought back distant memories made me think about starting this thread: F40: Historic Photos with People. I know we have other F40 photo threads, but I'm not sure I've seen one dedicated to old photos of the F40 with people (e.g., late 80s and early 90's) that really bring back memories for some of us.

Here's a starter from June 1988. Pope John Paul II makes an extremely rare visit to Ferrari with the F40 clearly visible and proudly displayed for the Pope to see. Enzo Ferrari lay stricken with his final illness.

According to the source, he never drove a car his entire life. That knowledge helped strengthen the significance of the Pope's visit and Enzo Ferrari beyond his cars.

Interesting. Maybe he started driving after the Ferrari visit!

I suspect my source may be incorrect.

awesome pictures. I saw a few while in Maranello, must have been a fun day for everyone. I know they say that the Pope didn't talk with Enzo, but I've always wondered if the Pope sat by Enzo's bedside for prayers, knowing Enzo was dying.

Circa 1988, here is Ferrari F1 driver Nigel Mansell himself behind the wheel of his F40 at Silverstone.

    5th gear!

    He looks so relaxed.

Circa 1990: The late Stephano Casiraghi (husband of Princess Caroline) loved fast cars and boats. Here he is in Monte Carlo driving his brand new F40 with "EE.730.AK" registration a short time before his death.

Jean Alesi, the first man to race an (IMSA) F40 in the USA, in his own F40.

The top image is on 20th June 1992 in St Michel de Figolet, Cote D'Azur on Jean's wedding day! Obviously the car will always be special to him & his wife.... image by Poincet Francois. Can you top the F40 for a 'wedding car' ??

The bottom image is in 1995 also in the Cote D'Azur, being applauded by his fans... image by Parrot Pascal. Escursionisti Esteri plate "EE.988.AU"

Joe, thanks so much for sharing those outstanding photos! They're especially meaningful to me after meeting Leonardo Fioravanti and his son Luca at their office and home last year.

The F40 has the spirit of so many people in it, and these photos really help extract that spirit!

Bill the June 1987 images are special. Enzo Ferrari had said: ""My great passion was never to race cars, but to witness their births." So, that moment must have meant a lot to him.

I remember reading in Road & Track that when the covers came off the F40 at the launch the only words Enzo uttered were: "Bello, molto bello"

I was at the Kruse Auction in 2005 when the Pope's Ford sold...

"LAS VEGAS (AP) ― A light blue 1975 Ford Escort GL once owned by Pope John Paul II sold for $690,000 Saturday to a Houston multimillionaire who said he plans to put it in a museum he wants to build in his hometown." http://wcbstv.com/national/Pope.John.Paul.2.259221.html

The fellow sitting next to me bid the car up to about $550,000. Then John O'Quinn started to bid from the back of the room. My guy stood up to see who he was bidding against, and when he saw it was O'Quinn, prompty sat down and stopped bidding, saying, "that guy has more money than God"...It was quite a show....
