Hello Whenever I drive my 348 GTS with the AC on for a longer time, the bottom of the trunk is wet. Somehow the condensed water gets collected there. Has anyone had the same problem or has any idea how to fix it? Forza Ferrari Felix
Hi, and welcome to Ferrarichat. Since nobody else has responded yet, I'll post my 2 cents. You haven't listed any information in your profile about where you live. Since GTS versions of the 348 were only sold in Europe, I'm assuming that's where you are. I would say there are a couple possibilities. Obviously moisture from the air being cooled condenses in the evaporator. This moisture is normally drained off by a drain hose or tube. It could be that this hose is plugged or even missing. Another possibility is that your evaporator casing is cracked or broken and allowing condensation to leak out of the evaporator, rather than drain, or even that your evaporator is not sealed in place correctly or is loose, and is allowing moisture to leak out of the evaporator. Assuming you live in a high-humidity area, it's also possible that moisture is condensing on other cold areas of the system outside of the evaporator, such as connecting pipes that are not properly insulated, etc. If you are handy, you might be able to so some checking and partial disassembly around the front trunk or boot area to see if you can tell where the leak is coming from. It's likely that some work will be needed to repair the leaks, so you may want to find a dealer or local Ferrari mechanic instead. Good luck with getting your car fixed!
Thanks a lot for your reply. I live in Zurich, Switzerland. So it is not extremely moist here... I would like to have a look at the evaporator housing and the drain. How would I get to that? From underneath the car or from the air inlet working my way down? Have a nice day Felix
Sorry I'm just getting back to your note. I have a 348, but have never done any work on this system. Ricambi America's website has 348 drawings and you can find all of them at this link: http://www.ricambiamerica.com/parts_catalogs.php?M=FE&V=model&I=42 The key Air Conditioning system drawings are at the bottom, so I recommend checking these out (134 & 135). If you need help getting inside the dash, or under the boot, you can also find drawings which should show how to disassemble those areas. Good luck!
