Hard to say without a PPI and seeing it in person.

If it was a real slantnose (and it looks real from what pics have been posted), that was originally done in "paint to sample" Pearl White (I am assuming that is the color I am seeing.......and it is hard to judge from the door jambs and the panel with the engine decals, if it was a color change from Grand Prix White) and a documented original 21K miles, it would be worth much more than their BIN price of $31K if mechanically sound..............even in today's economy.

Wonder why 4 buyers all backed out ? Perhaps because it was that they left out the "no accident" part in their description........

Weird; all the pictures from the front show that reflection on the drivers side by the top louver.....It just looks like an extra signal/reflector

What motor is that? The 87/88 930's didn't have a sump plate/access. That doesn't look like a late 80's motor...

I'm going to call the dealer for more info. The hood doesn't look like it fits right. Also they are selling it for $39,900 on their site....

Spoke to the dealer. Previous buyers have backed out because the car needs a complete re-paint. From 1988-2002 the car sat in a barn in Wash . State. The humidity etc damaged the paint; the last 8 years it was in FL. The piece I was questioning that looks like a reflector is actually a spot where the paint has chipped off and missing.
They are sending me hi-res photos.
Mechanically runs fine; car dealer owners car. 3rd Porsche...

Two questions - re-spray estimates? What should the value of this car be?

They did say it was the original motor FYI. What year is that car you stole on Craigslist?

    This advice is free......

I just made a phone call, and vehicle disassembly with bare metal stripping and a correct concours quality pearl white repaint that will hold up for decades would cost you $20K to do correctly at the shop I'd want to use where I live..........and $15k for single stage non-metallic white......misc trim parts, materials and labor included.

So, IMHO, if it was a real car, and if it had service records from new, and if it was never hit, and if all the mechanicals were perfect, and if the engine had good leak down/comp numbers.......etc....etc......etc....and those are a lot of if's......in today's market I'd say anything over $55-60K puts you upside down......"if"......and it would be a very long resale cycle to find the right guy for the car at that price. I've sold perfect steel slantnose clones for more money.......but that was 3 years ago when $80K would have been the number on this car.......and there are legit comps to back up the $80K back when.

Thanks. (pretty funny, my initials are kds). This car has a lot of bubbles/rust. Louvers look horrible, lower windshield rust etc.
I don't want to throw good money after bad. Too many other projects. (68 big block Vette restoration)
I dig this car in pearl white though....

Any comments of the sump plate? Bruce Andersons book says they got rid of this access point in the early 80's... how come this car still has one?

    Bo.......

I don't know......I'd have to talk to my tech and check my reference material.

    Wolfgang.....

Man that is a mess eh ? It must be a repaint......looks like something really isn't right. The cars I have seen never get chipped there.......so it must be a paint problem.

I owned a slantnose, not convinced this one is for real, not really sure why but I'd be careful, KDS has made very good points.

Thanks to all. This car needs more than I'm wiling to do (at that price).
Any pictures of your slantnose? Aside from fiberglass - how do you tell if one is real?

Well......you should always run the VIN at your dealer and they can tell you eactly what it came with for the 1986-1989 model year cars.......

The first thing you physically do is open the front hood and look for 2 things. The white 4x4 sticker under the hood by the latch with a bunch of different numbers and specifically the option code 505 on it.......then fold back the carpet and look for the fiberglass covers on the inner fenders that protect the headlight mechanisms, and then you also look for the centre mounted headlight motor and rods that extend to each side of the car to operate the headlight mechanism.

This is a dead giveaway that it is not real if these parts are missing, as they are almost impossible to obtain......but if they are there and the sticker is not, it could be used parts from a crashed car that were installed to create a fake. There are about 10 other things you need to look for as well. Here's an old post about this.......

    Carnut......

You know Morrie........you could be right as the real cars had a plastic cover under the fender louvers to prevent crap (rocks, etc) from the road coming thru.........maybe that is why the louvers are so screwed up. They either went missing or it is a fake.
