Golly-Gosh! That's what those marks are? I've always assumed that the bar-code people were sponsors. Live and learn
Dear God! The urge to smoke has consumed me. This is ridiculous, these people need a different hobby.
I think I'm with you on that one. The only problem is when you get into things like toy replicas. I know a lot of them are purchased by adult collectors, but when little kids are playing with cigarette-branded toys, it brings up the issue of imprinting at a young age. Perhaps they should restrict toys from replicating tobacco signage--there's already a market for scale model tobacco decals.
Those were the days. Or when an astronaut lit up a cigarette after stepping out of his space craft, which was still dripping wet from the splash down. Brontosaurus Ignoramus Maximus here
Who would want to AFFORD to smoke? Beyond that, smoking is taxed heavily, if they ever outright banned smoking, what would they do to replace all that lost tax revenue? (the first person that says 'improved health status will pay for itself' I will slap)
How do you explain us growing up with those toys and never giving it a second thought? And how do you explain all the beer and alcohol signage? I have never smoked, I seldom drink - MAYBE 10 bottles of beer a YEAR, no alcohol, and nobody ever told me it was 'bad', I just never had the inclination to try them. That said, having 'Penthouse' on the side of an F1 car.... that did things for me! LOL
"Leading doctors are demanding...." I guess they have nothing better to do. What next? Dig up the corpse of ACBC and try it for introducing tobacco into motorsport? Mad Max for the prosecution!

Meet the Flintstones, They're a modern stoneage family. From the town of Bedrock, They're a page right out of history.
I'm only 20 and those times where awesome. Obviously I never saw it live, but man, those guys actually just did their thing...very very few playboy drivers are out there now, the last 2 where Raikkonen, and Irvine, and to a point, Hakkinen (he's dating a stripper, after all ) and Button. My favourite remains James Hunt. I rarely smoke, only when I'm out and drunk or something. I do like a good cigar though. Don't mind cigarette advertising, hell, I want it there! But then I want so many things in F1 and sadly it'll likely never happen anymore.
Misinformation from the Times? It can't be "an offence" to sponsor an event, or the Ferrari Marlboro deal would be nullified. They've taken the advertising ban to a new level. Anyway, the "livery" is clearly illegal under the rules as it has the desired advertising effect.
It's all clear to me now. Barcodes themselves are a conspiracy cooked up by an oligopoly of cigarette companies.
Healthier people stay sick longer and actually cost society more money in the overall picture, according to study I read somehwere. I'll see if I can find it and post in another forum. Dying early and being heavily taxed for it along the way is actually a great social justure. So what is the problem again for tobacco advertising? I don't get it. Does anyone seriously think that StayFree is gunna sponsor racing (or any other sport) when big tobacco is forced out? If that happens, say "Ba-Bye" to a lot of sporting events.
They are of course 200% right that it i a subliminal message. But why getting upset now? It's been a subliminal message for years. And I agree 100% with bdelp in post #18.
Hmm... bigger CO2 taxes maybe? and a tax for breathing... I don't smoke (well, maybe 1-2 cigarettes a YEAR), and nothing would convince me to start smoking everyday, even an advert on Ferrari F1 car . It's sad that some people (politicians, those "leading doctors etc.) think that others can't think for theirselfs, so they want to decide about every aspect of people's personal life.
98% of cigar smokers would not know a good cigar if they.. smoked it. I know I wouldn't. ALL racing has changed, welcome to the influence of $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$. And lawsuits.
Yeah, but we're old. All we had back then were Tinkertoys and wagons made from peach baskets These days there are so many toys and video games deliberately targeted towards every generation.
+1 I help teach elementary school kids about the dangers of smoking, and I couldn't care less about the barcode.
