I really prefer the clean lines of the Euro 308 and have been doing some searching here, but I can't tell how difficult it will be to drop the US rear bumper and diaper and install a Euro repro bumper and valance. Also, where would I find a Euro front grill as my second project? Can you guys educate a newbie?

It's a job, but it can be done. Newman makes a fine quality Euro front grill. I believe Newman and I both used Euro fiberglass bumpers the ebay guy sells (actually a tiny bit lighter than OEM Euro bumpers) which I thought were good enough quality. Removing the rear diaper is a bit of a job. A small valance panel needs to be fabricated to go between the two bottom valances just behind the two rear wheels. This mod was done on my car many years ago so it needs to be repainted, but you get the idea. I actually installed the Euro bumpers though.

Man, those look great. I would like one of those. Have to find a good local fabricating shop now.

These look a lot better than the traditional US diaper in my opinion. Do I really need to get the two valances fabricated, ie. how was this handled on the Euro cars? I need to check out my old books for photos on this. It seems like it should be simpler than this.

    John -

I forgot to ask you this: Did you have to replace your exhaust system and drop the cats to get this to work? Also, did you look for a Euro rear valance before you fabbed one yourself? Thanks.

Who is Newman, and what was the ball park cost on a euro grill?
    Thanks

    Oh yes he did :(

    Johnny,

Newman is just a resident local legend and expert who did what is probably one of the nicest, most in depth, over the top, no expense spared, total...and I do mean TOTAL..... restorations of a 308 that has ever been done.

How long have you been hanging around on this site without getting to know that??

Here is his contact info....and you might want to read through his restoration thread when you have a few extra hours...or maybe days ..... :)

Oh, and by the way it was nice meeting you and getting a chance to see your car at Cannon beach over the weekend. Did you get the battery issue sorted?

About two years, but just recently started hanging out in this section. Never had a reason before.

Likewise. I think the issue is how the fog/driving lights were connected. Every time the battery has died it has been after a few minutes of the the car shut off but the lights remaining on. If these were KC 10,000 candle driving lights I would not be surprised, but they are fairly small. So I suspect they are grounding somewhere.
