What do you do when parking your Ferrari? Get a spot in the way back of the lot? Valet? Just park it where you can find a spot? --Grant
I trust no-one...I park well away from other cars and walk a bit. Valet -- never again. Park it anywhere -- too many careless idiots. Take up more than 1 spot -- begging to get keyed (and deservedly so).
I think you just need to choose well, but really, there's nothing you can do. Typically no matter how well away I am from other cars, another vehicle, usually a pickup or large SUV, will park next to me. Why? Probably because I've left an extra wide space on one side of the car (the other usually being against a wall or other protective structure). I don't take two spaces because that is just asking for bad things to happen. Never valet. Too many stories with cars other than a Ferrari for me to trust any valet.
You guys park your cars? I get it out of the garage, drive it 100 miles and return it. Rinse and repeat next weekend. Kai
You beat me to the punch with the sarcasm. I was going to say I usually close the garage door when I park my car. Seriously I usually just park the car and do what I'm going to do. If someone is going to mess with it they are going to do no matter where you park it.
Cars a meant to be driven. If you drive them, you ding them. I do try to park away from other cars if possible. Never leave it parked at Wal Mart though. LOL
Emphasizing.... Never utilize a valet. Research this forum's search function for numerous negative valet stories.
You are apparently on the wrong automobile site...LOL!!! "It's JUST a CAR"??? Not to me it isn't. I have waited my whole life to own a Ferrari. It isn't "just" anything to me...
My wife and I were out this past weekend and returned to my car to find that someone had slammed open their passenger door into my driver's door so hard it went through the paint and primer and left a sizeable dent on a crease line. I noticed it and shrugged it off and we left. My wife goes "you would have gone crazy if this was a Ferrari" and I replied with "I wouldn't have driven a Ferrari here."
Any stories of anyone driving out of town and the valet refusing to let you park your own car, even with a decent tip?
Not a Ferrari, but took my previous M5 to the Ritz Carlton in Amelia Island 2 years back and tipped the valet (no self parking) 30 bucks to keep the car out front overnight and NOT MOVED. Got the car the next morning with miles on it and the passenger seat was moved (wife is short... seat was almost fully slid back) and there was a door ding to top it off. Made a ruckus at the front office and they took photos and their attorneys called later that week. Will never stay there again.
I've had valet bend a rim and have had people spit on car after I came back to it. I used to be of the opinion of drive it, it's just a car, but enough is enough. I won't leave car out of sight any longer, it's not worth it. To the "it's just a car" opinions here, I think the 2nd or 3rd time you have to pay $1000 + for repairs, you may change your mind. I used to be of the same mind set, and to you it may be just a car, to some, it's a target. I'm done with that.
And yet another a plus to owning a Ferrari. You have to walk more and thus get more excercise. Who can argue with better health?
ALWAYS a protected end spot, and about 1-2" from the curb, at that - even when I have to do it with a hike. I'm not afraid to get a little exercise, and I've done this with any car I enjoy or care about in the slightest. I've also had people park into that space, as if to make a point (or just an azz of themselves?), one even parking out away from everybody else to do it and giving me a deep divot into the metal of the door. His window fell out in pieces, somehow, and his door mirror became very heavy. Valet? Depends on the car, but rarely. In an older car like the Boxer? I took a page from Napolis - "Where do you want me to park it?" Haven't had a problem with any of them objecting to that yet.
