Well, most of em aren't too well versed with English, much less a Ferrari based forum. U'll find that your Mandarin improves a lot faster living there!

I have a strong feeling that the important historical cars will find their way there in the next few years when they get tired of modern stuff. Just hope that they have the same motto as the Japanese in maintenance!

    Probably not soon.
I was talking to the collector who bought 2 Zonda Cinque from Hong Kong and owns the China Zonda dealership, the current regulations does not allow or it's extremely difficult at least, to import vintage/historical cars. That's why even hardcore tifosi with huge Ferrari collections in China do not own cars like 288GTO and F40.

Yes, this is a main one:
    http://www.xcar.com.cn/
It has sections for all major makers/models.

Are you Chinese? You already live in Shanghai?

Oh that's sad. Btw, what's the official tax duty like in China & only LHD allowed? A friend said that 550 & 360s are very affordable now but problem is the condition & provenance of those cars.

Not sure about taxes, but the car prices here are astronomical. I saw an R8 V8 at Plaza 66 for 2.5MM RMB. That's like $360K, or about 3x what I paid back home. In China, exotic cars are for the rich. Back home they are for the wealthy.

Anyone know what the depreciation is like in China? Even if you spend 3x as much, you sell for 3x as much too, so it's not so much of a net loss, I guess. Though with the money that is involved in exotics here, I imagine not too many people would care to save money by buying used. If you are going to spend $700K on a car, I'm guessing money is no object, and there isn't much interest in a used car.

I also don't think your Chinese will improve when living in Shanghai. Beijing, probably. Some 2nd tier city, for sure. Downtown Shanghai? Not a chance hehe.

I'm in Northeastern China once in a while. Yes, 2nd hand cars seem to be not on anybody's radar! Everyone just buy it new here so I wonder if they just add on or 'export' to another county. I heard it's 300% duty but there are ways going around this depending on who handles it.

Actually, the luxe car tax is pretty much similar across most Asian countries. Korea & Malaysia are pretty high as well.

Japan seems reasonable for high end cars.

I agree about everyone buying new, 2nd hand car market must be pretty good there since everyone who has the money just wants a new car.

In the nutshell, the imported car price, is roughly 2.5x of North America price.

For example, F458 base is 3.888 million RMB, which is 570k USD. 599GTO is 5.9088 million RMB, which is 866.4k USD.

Considering a college graduate working a white collar job earns few thousand RMB per month, the car price is astonishing, if one can afford it, they are not earning money the "conventional" way, and they definitely don't care to buy used.

That being said, there is still a 2nd hand market.

Yes. No need for the expensive metallic paint. You just let the air in China circulate a little and pick up the debris from it.

That area is a ghost town. I can't believe there is such an expensive hotel there.

Meh on the China 599's. I'd rather the GTO.

Have seen a bunch of cars out lately. Nothing too special though. Few 640, 560's, Scuderia, 430's and 911's.

I just wondered if anybody has dragged themselves off to Expo yet ? If so and you visit the Italy Pavillion (which is probably the best one there in my opinion) you will find the green 599 Hybrid KERs experimental car on display freshly rushed down from the Beijing motor show.
If i can work out how to downsize the pics i took i will upload them onto this site if anybody is interested.
I have kept an eye open since i got here a month ago for interesting vehicles but other than a couple of camens a 911 and 2 red 430s nothing else. Oh and about 500 very boring Cayens they seem to breed like rabbits here in China. The only other Ferrari i have seen so far was a really nice Yellow 430 Scud in the workshop behind the Chong Qing dealers last week getting some paint done. The show room is empty as usual except for the Masserati's.
Is anybody heading into watch the F1 race at Malones American bar or similar Sunday evening ? Shout out if you are.

Yes, the Cayenne is probably the best selling car in Shanghai. Given the choice, I think I'd opt for the Toureg just so I didn't blend in so much.

I saw a hideous G wagen today. Black with three orange stripes down the center, orange stripe on the wheels, and some other orange accents.

It also said "richbaby" in glittery letters on the front windshield and back. Funny enough, it wasn't even the G55. 'Kindarichbaby.'
