well, if I had the SKILL to drive like that the former is the better, but I think doing the latter would be a huge adrenalin rush just the same. and I'll tell you what, I saw a 6th gear sweeper with bumps in the video...if he went off there, he'd be history!! I got frightened a few times through that....and I'm just sitting in front of a computer!
totally agree. i can see why they have come unstuck a few times. i have been there and the feeling is terrible, and you have to wait a whole year for the chance to fix your mistake. the uncle has more balls than jason to be sitting there. congrats to them both.
Not much margin for error! Narrow roads and nothing but poles, trees or dropoffs to greet the smallest mistake or bad luck.. Wonder who owns the car to risk half a mill+ on bending it?
the hands dont move cos the paddles move with the wheel.....aka ferrari, the paddles are fixed! it cost just over 500k for the car then 200 euros for the trofeo kit.......lets say 800 to 900k aussie in total
Jim Richards did protest that the Lambo is not a car one can buy from a dealer, hence special build which goes against the rules somewhat. Its the 200k euro trofeo kit that makes the car a one off
mmmmm, i think the hands don't move as that's the correct way to drive a race car. as for richards, ask him about the 'go fast' bits he gets from the Porsche factory. bits that aren't available to anyone else ordering a road car. that's what i have heard anyway. guess that makes his a 'one off' too.
ya know, I do the same with the hands shifting around the wheel as you do. Frank Gardner taught me to drive that way. It's ok to stay 10-2ish when the car has very direct steering or you're on a track with open corners, but trying to keep the hands on the wheel in this car and this situation would mean big arm movements and necessitate lifting/moving the shoulders etc IMO. Whatever works for everyone is the best I'd say. gee you're gentle on that car....it's good to see....a pleasure to watch.

I heard the same story. Not in the spirit of the event IMO. You're only cheating yourself winning in those situations. Having said that it was spectactular to watch. Well done Goobs and Simon. You took a straight car home and climbed back up the ladder during the event. Did well to miss that Lotus on the prolodue. That explains the time. Whats the next event, Targa High Country?

Hi, IMHO in car videos always look incredibly lame compared to the actual experience. They fail to convey the violence, noise, bumpiness and G-forces of the stages. Also, the extreme uphill and downhill elevations are not well demonstrated. The experience of knowing you may well die if you slide of the road is not an easy thing to catch in a video. Having said that, the video of lambo looks scary. Multiply that scariness by a factor of 10x and that is what it must have been like for the whites. One thing with targa this year that escalated things was the lack of chicanes. In my mini I frequently saw speeds of 200km+ on long straights, whereas in previous years I only saw this in a couple of places. In similar places the lambo would have surely been pushing 280km or more. Unless you have driven the stages yourself it is impossible to understand the commitment it requires. Cheers Robbo
