Manny, these cars always tend to have cam ends that eventually leak. The answer is the hat on the heat shield, but that is in another post.

The new Marelli alternator I'm running cost $250, mounted up to the same Dino mounts and has a solid state voltage reg built-in. All I had to do was connect a pigtail across the original volt reg's 12V source to output to activate the exciter circuit!

I bought it from a local Fiat guy and he states that he had financed the production run of alternators. I've had mine installed for 9+ months now and just finished the 2500 mile trip to Monterey and back with positive results in Euro Dino #05082.

The only catch is that you must have the Euro alternator bracket

Excellent point - any prior oil dripping issue needs to be resolved or you can expect the same results.

 

To answer a few recent questions:

1) the price is $250.00 plus shipping, I only have two left
2) this will only fit the Euro alternator bracket (but you can buy those from dinoparts.de
3) it is not an upgrade, but a 55Amp solution (the original was a 60 Amp unit)
4) it has an internal voltage regulator so you must perform the modifications in this thread (i.e. disconnect the external Volt reg and make a jumper wire to connect two of those lines to provide 12 volts to the alternators exciter terminal)

I have now completed over 5,000 miles in mine with no incidents.

 

I have now hit the 8,000 mile mark with no problems using this alternator

 

just curious if it has the pulley for the wider (euro) belt or the thinner (USA) belt? I installed a gm unit 60 amp unit & put a euro mount on. The only issue was that the gm unit had the wider groove for the wider belts that are typical for USA cars. Since the groove on my USA Dino was the thinner style I machined the pulley down to a more narrow V. I have snapped 2 or 3 belts and it has been suggested to me that perhaps in machining the pulley down to make a more narrow V ( And thereby accomodate the thin style belt used on USA dinos) that too much pressure was put on the very end of the V and not enough on the shoulders. If that is the case it could explain why I have snapped a few belts. I have had the car sitting on my rack for a few mos (sorry to say) as I have not gotten the time to look at it. I was thinking of removing the alternator (which I have done a 1000 x and is a pain) to remove the pulley & check the geometry, I am all open to suggestions here. The pulley off of the original alternator (marelli) wont fit in the alternator so that is not a choice. thanks
