Finished our factory tour including F1 and Corse Clienti and had a nice lunch with our group at Cavallino. I am going to a 5 PM appointment for the Ferrari Atelier program. I plan on picking colors and options for my upcoming May order for a 458.

I saw quite a few colors of 458s today on the line today. Was a bit surprised that there seemed to be many more Calis in production than 458s. Seems they are coming out a bit slowly for some reason. Could just be my observation though.

Right now leaning toward black with cuoio interior. Although I nevered prefer white cars the 458 looks stunning in white. Will see how it goes with the appointment for me to make my final selections.

Are racing seats and the sport wheels on your list to consider? Excellent way to spend a Monday!

That's really interesting. Please report back on your experience. I was thinking of doing the same with Altelier and I was wondering if it was worth it.

Actually the Atelier program makes things a bit more confusing with so many choices being put in front of me. Will make decisions tomorrow after my test drive in a giallo Italia. What a beautiful car!

Would you please check out the color of the front winglets and side sport sills on the giallo car? The rosso car I saw had a very dark grigio metallic color on both the front winglets and the sport sills and I really liked it, but I was told that on a giallo car both are black instead. I'm wondering if the black doesn't contrast excessively with the giallo...

The opinion of someone who can look at both side by side would be valuable.

The Atelier program is great, as you can really see all options for real. They are very helpful, but not neutral. It is a very dangerous exercise: you better know very clearly which option you are ready to consider before the session, as they are very good at pushing the most expensive options on you (without telling you how much it costs...). Bicolor exterior, tri-layer painting and carbon interior being the favorite options...

Beyond the usual options, I didn't take any fancy stuff (only dark gray sport wheel, sport seats, front lifting and alcantara-leather interior)... and they were so good at making me feel that I was a "cheap guy" because I kept saying no to all fancy stuff.
I can easily see how you can come back from a session spending 35k more than what you had budgeted....

That is funny. Imagine, a "cheap guy" going to Italy to spec a 250k car!!!! Definitely not th place for me as I am not into carbon fibre decorations and paint which is difficult to repair stone chips!!!!

I was told that the selection of black vs graphite sills and winglets depends on which ext paint you choose. I asked him about giallo and he said "he thinks" either was available. But he did not sound certain. I did not ask for confirmation since my car will be black.

Have your dealer confirm. Sorry I can't be more definitive.

Todd probably is still remembering the suspect black paint job he was able to restore on that Scuderia before...
An amazing result after he got finished with it!

SCantra - We just finished a factory tour just a few days after you - Friday, May 7th.

Yes, there were more CA's coming off the line but was told that was because there were more on order. However, my take is the factory is allowing this to be the case.

They obviously control the number of orders for any model, and justifibly must be limiting the "orders" for the 458.

A stunning looking car the 458 is, but still no regrets on our late 430.

And agreed, the 458 looks great in white.

When I was in the midst of choosing options and such the Atelier rep recommended against choosing a bright color for the calipers. Especially with the thin spoke optional wheels. My first intent was to choose yellow calipers since I wanted a Nero Daytona car. He pointed out that with the optional wheels and bright caliper color all you see when you first look is the calipers. He is right.

I noted on the 458s traveling between US dealers has aluminum color calipers. I would guess that the factory has made this determination about color too. Take a look at the car in this thread:

What's funny I was thinking the same thing. The calipers are huge and the wheel spokes are extremely thin. A bright color really shouts out.

I also like the silver on silver when paired with the forged thin spoke wheels

I went with alloy calipers and RICS, the chrome painted standard wheel. I felt the sports wheel was a little "delicate" looking. Guy on Rennteam has a delivery of the RICS wheel and it looks very "purposeful" Gives the car appearance of momentum when stationary due to the spoke angles.

    Gary,

One of the decisions that I waffled on was the std vs option wheels. Although I like the style of the options the spokes are almost too thin. Not that the stds are my favorite design though. I would guess in a year or two there will be more choices and new wheel design. I keep thinking that the option wheels will be too easy to bend too. Unanticipated potholes or road construction cuts will result in an expensive fix.

When it comes to the standard wheel I would prefer it the darker shade
