Hi all, Thanks in advance for any help you can provide in educating me on actuators in F1 systems. The car is an 06 f430 13k plus and it seems the actuator has needed to be swapped for a new one twice now due to leakage and part failure. So, my questions are

1.) could there likely be some other part upchain of the actuator causing it to break?
2.) has any1 had the same leakage and part failure probs?
3.) what exactly is the function of the actuator in an F1 system?
4.) when the actuator goes out, what is are the symptoms? I ask this last question because even though the part was failing and has leakage issues, I couldn't tell there was anything wrong with the way the car drove and wasn't aware of it until the dealer was inspecting the car during services.

The actuators push and pull on the shift forks, which cause the gears to engauge and disengauge. These do what the linkage to the gear selector lever did in a manual tranny.

This is one that was leaking and shifting erratically. We completely rebuilt it and afterwards performed all the normal setup, bleeding/programming with SD-2. The car trans shifts perfectly now.

The bores were nasty with corrossion and contaminants leaking past seals and scrapers. This particular unit had been replaced by a dealer only 3 years prior. However, the F1 fluid had never been replaced and I suspect it has a great affinity for moisture due to the corrosion encountered.

Needless to say, I recommend all my our F1 clients to have us change the fluid annually especially considering this part is $15k still.
