    Unbelievable fighting spirit...

Gilles is STILL sorely missed...one of the bravest drivers who ever lived.

p.s. I still chuckle over Scheckter's shock at Gilles being 11 SECONDS quicker than the rest of the field in the rain in practice session at the US GP in 79.

With the passing of time we tend to forget how deadly our sport once was and who we've lost.
    Thanks

I was a sophomore in high school, and Villeneuve was iconic to me. We had been visiting my sister at college and had returned home. I went to a party at a friend's house and the television was playing in the background. As the sportscaster began running the video of his crash, another friend started joking "Check this out!" I remember how angry I felt--he apologized for joking. I was fortunate to have seen him in person only weeks earlier at my first-ever Grand Prix, the race at Long Beach. Took this photo of him in the pit lane.

A truly iconic F1 driver, massive talent and no matter how bad the car was he never gave up trying, never gave up pushing the car to the very limit(and sometimes beyond).

One of my favorite F1 drivers of all time and a true legend. I will forever associate number 27 with Gilles.

    +1

I saw the date in the title and debated even opening it.

    Still makes me incredible sad.

    RIP :(

There are no other drivers like Villeneuve.
I met him several times at Watkins Glen, and he signed autographs for me, which I have today. Very nice guy, and super talented driver.

Back in 82, you did not have TV coverage like today, so when i saw the pictures on the tv news, It only took me 1 second to see that it was Villeneuve, felt sick back then, its incredible that its been over 30 years!

It's been 28 years. I was born a month later after he died. Sadly I never got to see him race.
