I have ferrari 348 spider. In traffic and in 1st gera water temp rises to level seen in attachment pic. Is it normal/acceptable? once in 2nd and other gears it goes back to just below 90 degrees. I run straight pipes/decat

Make sure your fans are working, check for debris partially blocking air flow in and out of the radiator. Will it run at the same temp if you are stationary holding the revs at about 3000 to 4000 rpm?

Also check water temp with a infrared heat gun at the top hose

It does not appear normal to me - I have never had this happen.

I realized that the metal lid or cap that retains the coolant water is rusty. could this let pressure thru and cause temperature alterations? whats the correct english name for this part so i can order from eurospares?

In the parts book, that part is called "Tank Plug" in English, or ""Tappo per Nourice" in Italian. It's Ferrari part #137644.

I would call it "Coolant Expansion Tank Cap".

Sorry, didn't see that he asked 'is this normal'. The answer to that is no.

Couild a bad coolant cap be causing heating problems? The answer is yes.
