I noticed this weekend that the coating on the trim pieces on the 360's windows is wearing off. All I can think is that the detail guy may be running a buffer over it and it's stripping it off. So, I'm going to refinish it but needed to know what it is. Pretty sure it's just paint, as I don't think anodizing strips like this. Is it a gloss finish, semi-gloss or flat? I can't tell from what's left on mine.

Mine looks like a muted black semi-gloss almost identical to the rubber along the window below it at the door line.

Same is happening to mine, actually just the washing mitt is enough to take the stuff off now; it's nearly all gone.

    Wow that is strange!

    Could it be from detailing?

Mines coming off as well. I looked into re-finishing it but was told that the paint will just come off again. Once you get the shinier paint off the top, it leaves a duller black finsih. It actually looks fine, I need to go get the rest of mine off.

    Has anyone successfully refinished these??

This is a common 360 problem, either the substrate was not prepared correctly or the coating wasn't formulated right. The finish peels off after a while as it was probably on there more by cohesion than adhesion. Ferrari dealers usually send them into their bodyshop and they paint them with a satin black finish. You could probably do a diy job as long as you are careful and wet sand the bare metal, finishing with no less than 400 grit and then paint with satin black spray can. Body shop paint would be better especially the two-pack paint with hardener.

I know this is an older thread, but I'm wondering if anyone has succesfully removed all the "shiny" top layer. Mine is peeling bad, but not sure how to scrape the rest off w/o damaging and scratching the metal underneath..

Is the trim difficult to remove? I can see all the screws under the door seal rubber but not sure the back part above quarter glass?
