    All,

After selling my "L" Series Dino some years ago I am now seriously back in the market for a great 246GT Dino Coupe! Would consider any honest cars with great foundation "L" Series, "M" Series or "E" Series (Euro and U.S. Spec coupes considered) Dinos that "need restoration" to perfect "needs nothing" platinum examples. Bottom line, car has to have potential. Please PM me. Will be confidential. Any leads appreciated. Car is for myself, a Dino to keep long term with a good home. Car must already be registered and titled in the U.S.

    Thank You,
    Freeman

Freeman is not the only one who has posted a serious "WTB a Dino" thread in a while. I posted that I was looking for a Dino in July of 2009, and after a little over 9 months, several flights, test drives, and PPIs, I just bought a 246gt this past weekend. It will be arriving this coming Tuesday to fight for garage space for a while with my 246gts.

Better Sunday than Monday, but either is better than Tuesday! ;)
Pictures of the arrival/unveiling will be much appreciated! And, please include some sibling-side-by-side shots.
When you have time, Mark, a synopsis of 'the hunt' would be enjoyable for those of us who are lucky enough to already have a Dino (or uber lucky enough to have two) and educational for those who are still searching.
    Patiently,
    Coop

    All,

After much thought and deliberation I ended up buying the Euro/Italian spec Dino(*03932*) from Fantasy Junction a couple of weeks ago http://www.fantasyjunction.com/cars/878-Ferrari-Dino%20246%20GT-2.4%20Litre%206%20Cylinder . I went up inspected and drove it extensively. It drove and shifted great. Fired up from cold immediately. Smooth, strong power with no hesitation. Up and down shifts were excellent(one of the best I've driven). Put it on the rack inspected every nook and cranny. Chassis was straight and honest and showed no signs of any accidents(just dirty). Went through the body with a magnet and felt every surface. The only corrosion I could find was at the top front of the doors and at the door bottoms. What gave me confidence was the paint was over 33 years old and didn't show any evidence of corrosion anywhere else. Body was excellent. The front chin showed some curb damage(easily fixed). Fantasy Junction had a folder full of receipts and ownership records that went all the way back to 1977 Including its original "blue plates" from when it was imported in to California from Italy. The present owner had it since 1987(33 years). In the receipts was a full rebuild of the original motor and gearbox which only has 3000 miles since. The XWX's also only have about 3000 miles on them. I contacted D.O.T. where they confirmed it was legally imported and was in their "Blue Book"(a good thing). For $19 they sent me an official legal letter. My contact at Ferrari confirmed the original colors as "Blu Scuro"(as it is today) w/Beige vinyl. Since I've had it we've been fixing some misc electrical things, cleaning and adjusting. I am so pleased with my decision. It has exceeded my expectations. Even the original turn signal/light stalk is uncracked or damaged. The original interior vinyl has no rips or tears. It is responding beautifully to cleaning. The whole dash including the mousehair is in great shape. Inside the door jams and the cove inside the back window still has original paint. The chrome is in really good shape. All the glass is original with original markings. I've had friends over to the garage. They've shared in my enthusiasm and offered lots of advice and help. My goal is to make it a great driver, fix the corrosion on the doors, clean the underbody and misc detailing and painting then really enjoy driving it and enjoy the aesthetics! It's everything I wanted and more. I think alot of people were scared off by the missing turn signal lense and the corrosion on the doors. BTW, I'm looking for an original tool kit and Series 3 manuals(red). I'd be willing to trade the ones I have(L-Series owner's manual, Series 2 parts manual). Thank you to all of you that shared your leads with me and helped with your advice and encouragement. I'd also like to thank Fantasy Junction for ther professionalism, honesty, patience, courtesy and friendly great service. I would not hesitate to buy another classic from them or refer them to my friends. Above all, I'm now a Dino owner again!!!!

    Yasmin,

You have great taste! Seeing the image of your Dino is inspiring! What color blue is it? Looks like Blu Dino Metallizzato. Like the 16" wheels!

Yasmin, I would love for you to show some more pics, looks great. What tire size are you able to run on the 16's?

Car is red/tan (I think that is already known). The Dino was originally Rossa Rubino Metallizzato with tan interior. Somewhere in it's history, someone called it "maroon". That somehow got translated into Marrone, the light metallic brown ( I wish it was as I love that color).

The original buyer of the car was Arnold Lieberman (although Ferrari records indictate a buyer of "Liebalman"). Arnold's first cousin is a well known U.S. Senator...

Regardless, Arnold bought the car on a return trip from the Bahama's were he had a very nice windfall at the casino. He bought the car with his winnings upon landing in Miami at Orange Motorcars. He confirmed the original specs....

Interesting details, the car has been painted red since the early 80's and has not been repainted since. It has the EXACT SAME "bubbles" on the upper door skin and very minor bubbling on the lower doors. The lower doors are a common problem, but the fact they have not changed in 30+ years is a good sign to me (I bought the car '05). I too loved the fact that I knew nothing had been recently covered up and intended to use the car as a driver...

It wasn't until I saw the Fantasy Junction listing that I stood in disbelief, the upper leading edge of the drivers door looks almost identical to mine.....Why?

I don't know, but I have 5 Dino's and this is the ONLY Dino I have seen this on until 03932 was marketed. What has caused this? What is it? It has changed ANY in the 5 years I have owned it, but it still is a very unique phenonmenon.....
