There are 16 boring RED ones on ebay NOW that AREN'T selling. The one in Oregon with 53k miles on it for 44k BIN is good deal for that car. It's RED and in very nice shape, recent service etc.... No sale for 18 months.
I agree. I've seen that car in person, and it is in very nice, well-maintained condition. I wouldn't be afraid to put 80K miles on a TR, but I wouldn't want to start with 53K --- I would want to have been intimately familiar with the car from, say 20K or so, miles....... know what I mean ? The market of buyers seems to have the same concern regarding a car like that. I think if I were that owner (and assuming he doesn't need the cash for something else), I would be tempted just to keep the car, and drive it until it was totally used up...
Wow! That looks like a really sweet deal for $40K... Someone should snatch it up. I'm sure tempted to.
Agree on all points. James Glickenhaus drove his for 150k before his mechanic junked it due to cancer in the chassis. Brian Crall knows of a TR in CA that has over 200k on it without the engine ever being apart and it runs fine. The engines in these cars are the strongest part of the whole car. It's keeping the rest of the stuff working that's the problem.
I think the color combo is awesome. I do think the market for these car is "that bad" though. This current employment/economic/financial/political environment seems to really have sucked all the life out of this segment of the "fun car" market. I thought the market had bottomed out a year ago. That was wrong.
BTW, will you take $39,999.99 ??? I want to feel like I'm a shrewd buyer, and that I'm stealing it from you
That is a beautiful car! I can't believe Shamile isn't all over it! Then he could jump out and say... FREEZE MIAMI VICE! On second thought, can that...we'd never get him to stop. But I can't help feeling that this car would be SO appropriate sitting in Shamile's garage. What do you say Shamile? Here's your shot and I have to say, she certainly looks beautiful. Frank
Why would you say the Oregon car is a good deal? Miles have to be worth something, especially on a Ferrari. (I'm keeping an eye out for a north western located Testarossa, so the Portland one caught my eye when it was posted at $49+ a couple months ago)
You have a beautiful car. The white/white is my favorite color combination on any car, especially this one. It stuns me that a low mileage car like this is even available for $40k.
Sellers remorse is starting. Just upped the price on ebay to 45k min. It may go to 50 by the end of the day
The car is Oregon is mine - thanks for the kind words about it, guys. It's been for sale for a long time, but I don't think I've hit 18 months, yet, though! Maybe 11? Was just going to commiserate with DrewStoddard - there are just NO TR buyers out there! It's really frustrating. I've lowered the price and just want it gone, at this point, but I don't want to just give it away. I've gotten lots of offers to trade for land in Arizona and Florida and Washington. Part-ownership of a small oil well in Kentucky. Old Chevy Camaros, Porsches, you name it. Lots of offers around the $36k mark - who then don't reply to follow-up emails, so I don't think they were serious even at that price. I added pictures of girls in bikinis to my ad this week, and my page views jumped from 500/week to 1000/day. Maybe that will help? I sure don't know. Oh, and about the miles - if you've had one, you'll understand that maintenance and condition are incredibly important, and mileage is completely ephemeral. They'll go just as far as any other car if you take care of them. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1990-Ferrari-Testarossa-Red-Tan-and-Perfect-/230473672653?cmd=ViewItem&pt=US_Cars_Trucks&hash=item35a94d27cd#ht_597wt_907
For the Portland car, could the low AutoCheck score be the reason perhaps? It looks like it has a lein against it, maybe that puts people off.
I agree with Mr. Red -- eBay is bottom-feeder land, both in terms of buyers without actual money and sellers with problem cars. But, realistically, the market is still weak, as others have posted, and most people still want red/tan. $40K is a realistic price. Keep in mind that it takes a while to sell a Ferrari. You have to find a buyer who can handle the service costs, which are extremely high for the value of these cars. FerrariAds on this site worked well for me -- well over 1000 views in the first month, then it sold to an FChat'er. FML was a waste -- zero interest, and a long lead time to get the ad placed. I'd also suggest one of the auctions. Their marketing/PR is generally good.
I would like to hear an intelligent response from someone like Bullfighter as to why you feel ebay is so bad, that you only get bottom feeders. To date, everyone who has downed ebay has put their car on ebay. And has either buy or sold something there. Bullfighter, your car was exceptional and you are well known here. So you never needed to put your car on F-ads. If you want a large viewing audience, non is better then ebay. Everywhere you will find good and bad. As long as you find one buyer willing to pay your price then ebay has worked for you.
Keep it! Even at $45k, you'll be kicking yourself in the ass every time you go out to the garage and it's not there.
