I am changing the belts on the gt4. I am following the instructions on Birdman's website that are thorough. It explains there is a petcock to drain the coolant tube under the front bank on the car. This is a '75 that might predate the petcock because I cannot find it.

The only way i can see removal of the coolant is to disconnect the small hose before the coolant tubes turn into the frame to the front of the car. My only issue with this is that the coolant tubes sit right over the gas tubes ( the small rubber section - see pics). There is a flashing over this but I assume it is very bad to get coolant on these tubes.

Should I proceed with disconnecting this section to drain the coolant? If so does anybody have any tips?

    Thank you!

Sometimes the pet cock is on the other side of the engine. Dumping the coolant at the front of the car is also a good way.

I won't give any tips. My last adventures started out with visions of a neat and clean procedure ending up with lots of paper towels. :)

I also just removed the hose and poured coolant into a catch bin below. Not the cleanest way, but effective.

Why are you dumping water for replacing the belts, it is not necessary?

You can drain most of the coolant by disconnecting the heater hose return fitting on the main coolant pipe from the radiator. The fitting is under the front, between the front wheels

It is necessary to spill holy green water, because the metal coolant pipe blocks the removal of the timing cover.

I might as well have flushed it anyway because it was just sitting in there for a couple of years. Out with the old and in with the new.

I used the bleeder in the front. Then removed the excess with the shop vac! it sucked it right out! - remove the filter!!!

The petcock is just below the exhaust manifold on the REAR of the engine. You can get at it through the wheel well.

My car doesn't have the petcock either. Follow EuroGT4's advice. That is how I change my coolant. You'll get most of it out.

    Good luck!

I presume you mean on bank 5-8?, I find it is just as easy to use a stud remover to take out the 1 long stud that prevents you taking off the belt cover fully.

2 mins effort and no green water all over the place....

I am working on a writeup on this but not finished. here are some pics.
1 you need a funnel and hose and container
    2. Drain from engine petcock, when water stops undo bleeder in front and coolant cap lots more will come out
    3 shut petcock
4 go to front remove under cover
5 get large container put under there pull off heater hose , when you do this coolant will come out in two directions I ended up putting a petcock on the pipe there but you can hold the pipe hole with your gloved thumb or rig up a piece of pipe with a plug in it pull of the hose slip the plugged hose on or cover with thumb
6 wear glasses and shut mouth lots will come out after 10 times you may learn how to do this without making a mess, but its hard to do.... recycle coolant as its very poisonous! keep animals away it taste sweet..........

have you seen my other chapters??
