It seems the first 6k in sales is relatively easy. The trouble comes in getting to the further 6k in sales. What were they thinking? Sounds like a 'price cut' is necessary to build demand. Not going to happen so they are stuck!

No offense meant but "how many more Enzo's"--I know of 2. Possibly there are more but are they documented and salable in the market at prevailing prices?

I don't remember a guarantee of limited production on the F40.

I don't remember a limited production guarantee on the F50 either--but honestly, I was not paying much attention then, so did Ferrari guarantee in advance the number on the F50? If so, what was it?

And by chance, possibly to your point, it seemed to have done well versus MSRP. Same with the Enzo and F40.

Of course, there'll be a random GTO or two/three at dealers over MSRP. As I've said, a few buyers will not be able to resist the upside versus what selling one outright (or back) will cost them in reputation with the factory--unless the dealer/buyer can say they had some serious mis-adventure after order, like a major illness or death, kidnapping of relative in Mexico (I've actually heard this one used). If not, those that submit particulars to FNA, order and then sell/sell back a GTO quickly are unlikely to ever get another chance to do so on a special edition.

But it won't be very many GTO's around to pick up. And they will be expensive.

As I've said, my guess is the best will be when Enzo replacement hits and then there will be GTO buyers that can move their cars with blessing as the new one comes in. You might see a depreciated price by then--esp if 25-30 (of approx 150 total to US) of the GTO buyers are offered the right to collect the new beast.

Its not a perfect car. None are. They'll be new, better ones in years to come.

But my beef is with anyone suggesting they'll be "loads of unsold" GTO's hanging around dealer lots. Its a simply ludicrious, uniformed statement...

I know its a GTO - but how do you plus +1000 on speculation?

    Its a 599 later version that is 450 - 500k vs 2008 599 at 235k

I see no comparison in a F40 F50 or Enzo to a 599 GTO. Yet it is upgraded but to the tune of 250k current value over a standard 2008 599, No way dude!

Sure they will sell - but at the end of the day they will like every other modern car depreciate. I would toss it in the Scud and 16M depreciation category. 50 -75k a year for the first few years then who knows.

I know this has no bearing - but the Sessenta was 400k? I saw one guywho sold it for 275k with 1,000 miles on it and advertised it everywhere. The reason I bring this up is everyone is going to customize the heck out of it - hence the resale appeal will have a very limited audience. The F40 F50 Enzo all look the same for the most part.

Listen. we keep going round and round and all we really have IS speculation at this point. But no one is going to tell me that they are going to make a thousand of them. Or that 599 GTO's are going to be falling out of the sky with no takers. There is also no one on Gods green earth that is going to convience me that you will pick one up under MSRP anytime soon. Nor can anyone predict how many customers are going to overly customize their cars. I know that I'm not interested in doing it. I doubt most others want to negativly impact resale by putting too much flash on a 500K car. There seems to be a lot of cynicism and hostility on this board regarding the motives of Ferrari hanging a GTO badge on a 599. But after my one on one with the factory reps. I have to believe that they are being sincere in their efforts to bring something worthy of supercar status. Hence the name. This is not a tweaked 599 its a detuned 599 XX. I think Ferrari made a huge gamble and showed a lot of guts putting the iconic GTO name on an existing model. Time will tell if this GTO will stand the test of future years. But lets be generous and have a little faith in the marque and the factorys ability. Its been a long time since the 288 was unveiled. While the 599 GTO may not be perfect. I think we finally have something capable of replacing it.

Drive one, indeed just look at one really closely, sit in it, punch the start button and talk with those that engineered it--its not a scud or 16m (which by the way, I absolutely love--esp the spider, best in years).

And, it surely "ain't" no 2008 "later version" GTB or Sessenta.

Here's a good test: try calling your dealer and see if he'll give you an allocation...from memory, the nearest one is in Chicago. I know them. And know they're sold out, apparently several times.

Admittedly, the GTO audience IS limited--but to collectors and those that want the fastest production Ferrari road car ever sold and best front engined Ferrari 12 cyl in a very, very long time. Then their are those that simply covet "GTO's" produced by Ferrari.

The thing is, there are actually quite a few people in the world in these catagories still with plenty of money.

My guess is one won't hit St Louis anytime soon unless someone pays a very hefty premium. As I said, it ain't no 2008 GTB.

Will it depreciate--probably, and like the 288 or even 250, likely for a while but then head back up as collectors take up the car from original and 2nd/3rd owners.

Will it be $300k in two years? Obviously, no one knows--but I'd surely not bet too heavily on it.

    I asked. Here's the answer I received:

"My educated guess is 500. This does not include the half dozen or so Enzos that were totaled and then rebuilt around the VIN. Hope this helps; let me know if you need anything else."

This bit caught my attention> There seems to be a lot of cynicism and hostility on this board regarding motives of Ferrari hanging a GTO badge on a 599. But after my one on one with the factory reps. I have to believe that they are being sincere in their efforts to bring something worthy of supercar status. Hence the name.

If you scan down further here to the section called 'Super Ferraris' you will notice one common characteristic of every car listed there. Each one when looked at in detail has unique styling. It is not derived from something else, it is 'something else' that has a visual 'wow' factor. It is not just special performance characteristics for the time that it was introduced. Ferrari seems to have taken a short cut in making the new GTO but with something still missing for historic supercar status.

Well if someone doesn't want their GTO, maybe St Louis will have one :)

We did have a FXX - FTR

If you read my prior posts I am in agreement. The +1000 was a little over the top.

I need to be here longer before the +1 makes sense. I apologize but I just have this thing about +1 scenario. Can you imagine being in public or at the dealer, announcing +1?

Is it "supercar of the month" Yes, definitively. Will there be another one around next month, yes probably.

The car will sell but it will not survive the overall inflation in supercars.

STL has its benefits...esp as a place to grow up. It surely has a "real" baseball team versus whatever is down here. To that, I could add a few other things about the Great State of Texas and its leadership (besides that its hot and we winter doesn't really exist), but being a friendly, mostly family site, I'll just say...you betcha! :) Enjoy!

Wouldnt the 288GTO fall short on your argument as well due to it looking like a modified 308?

Well said. I'm getting sick and tired of having to read why this car isn't worthy of the GTO badge. Add to that the fact that these comments are made by people who did not get the personal presentation of the car some of us got. Despite the fact that some of us did share detailed info from the presentation on this board, some people feel the need to doubt what was shared with us by Ferrari. I guess you have the right to do so. Look ... wait until this car is out there in the field and actually being enjoyed by the lucky buyers. Most buyers I've met have the intention to drive their cars and I'm glad they do because that was the intent of Ferrari ... build a car for users that will actually drive the hell out of it (on the street and the track ;) ) Yes, lucky ... that's what I consider myself. Call me a fool but I wanted the 599 GTO ever since I caught wind of it (and that was before it was mentioned on this board). I'm happy with the outcome and I will enjoy the living daylight out of it. It's a GTO. That's what the factory called it and with what I have seen so far I don't feel that they did anything wrong using the badge for the vehicle they created.

I just can't help getting the feeling that some people questioning the value and depreciation of this car and spreading around statements that there will be GTO's sitting around lots waiting and hoping for buyers to show up are just a little frustrated that they can't get one. So ... hoping that the value of these "beefed up 599's" is going to drop like a rock is understandable as it would provide a way for them to get their hands on one quick (and get a deal at doing so). Why compare this to a 2008 599 or a low mileage HGTE? There are plenty of those around to buy second hand at prices way below that of the GTO ... go get them tigers. What are you waiting for? Plenty of Scuds available and 16M's are available as well. Go get them. Nobody stops you from buying one. But I guess they are not like the 599 GTO. They are different ... come on, let's admit that this is a great car and leave pricing and resale values in the section of speculation. If you feel that the price is too high ... then walk away from it.

Time will tell who was right. Meanwhile, let's enjoy our GTO's (and 599 GTB's and HGTE's and Scuds and 16M's and F430's, ...).

Maybe time now to get back on topic = Who has ordered a GTO? Would be nice to get answers to that question :)

FWIW: mine should be ready end of this month ;)

That's been a point of disagreement for some time...as has been the actual FC "definition" of Super Ferrari's.

Many would say a 288 is a lot different than a 308. But, indeed it is a modified 308 body/chassis--only modified more than the 599 vs 599 GTO.

Also, I happen to believe a car worthy of GTO status produced by Ferrari is a "Super Ferrari"...to date, the indications from motoring experts whom have driven it hard are that the 599 GTO's performance is absolutely worthy of being called a GTO.

And, I also happen to like its styling--understated yet absolutely advanced in its function and aero characteristics.

But, my guess is the discussions will continue--subjectively, no doubt, for some time.

And in the end, none mean very much, ie, you either believe or not.

So while Ferrari does and apparently numerous expert testers do, too, FC must still officially weighs in on its "listing".

But one thing is absolutely not in question--its a Super Performance Ferrari--at a level no other has achieved to date.

Indeed a casual observer might mistake a 288 for a 308. Sort of a pumped up version of the classic 308. However when 'looked at in detail' there is very little in common. The front and rear bodywork are unique. The wheelbase is different and so is the drive train placement. It also has another supercar characteristic in that it was built in limited numbers unlike the 308. It has withstood the test of time rather well to. With a cost of 125k USD when new in 1985 it continues to command a substantial premium over that figure for resale today.

Well, off with family (provisionally) to Atelier in mid-late June for the GTO and possibly a 458.

@ M-Individual, please keep us posted about your GTO since I believe you are receiving it the earliest. It was a pleasure to read about your HGTE and will probably be even more so regarding the GTO :)

M-Individual, you're right, I totally agree, and I am also waiting to confirm my order asap.
In any case it is a great car, best performance ever for a road car, and good price compare to an enzo regarding the performance level.
It 's time to buy a GTO, waiting for the next supercar.
