+1 good luck on selling the 328 with the white exterior. Just out of curiosity, was white your first color choice? It's quite rare for a person to have two of them. IMHO, if you don't have any good reasons to sell the car, hold on to it. Otherwise, an even lower price (prob in the 30's) will grab more attention. You'll probably wait a while before someone finds this combination to be his liking.

    Dear Ferraristi,

    ...just magic !

Reminds me of the first episode where the Testarossa was introduced to Crockett and Tubbs in the back lot.

This was the first shot then Crockett walks past the car on the left while Tubbs walks past the car on the right....

Drew, you should have taken the pix near Palm Trees and other "Florida" traits....for those Northern buyers.....

You're both right, but the issue is differing standards. And I'm sure that a few bad cars make it into the dealer sales circuit, just as I'm sure a few great ones make it onto eBay.

In my experience, if you want an average car and you're bargain hunting then eBay isn't a bad way to save some money initially.

In the case of a Ferrari, the problem is that all of the usual small stuff that wouldn't bother me in a remote, anonymous, photograph-based sale of a Toyota pickup would bother me a lot more. An expert service and a first-time father/son DIY weekend belt job on a Ferrari don't look much different on eBay. And a panel respray can be hidden well in digital phots -- but not so well when the car rolls off the truck in front of your house. A broken mirror switch or badly pitted/delaminated windscreen can run into hundreds or thousands of dollars pretty quickly.

I haven't seen Big Red's cars, but I'm guessing he's at my end of the obsessiveness scale. (I see an oil drop on the garage floor and reschedule business meetings to take care of the car; I clean the backs of my wheels as often as the fronts; I can tell you where the hairlines are on my black cars, when most people can't find them; I know the age of my fuel lines, brake lines, etc., as well as I know my nieces' ages.) I usually pay more than average for my cars, because a car that has been doted on and kept to my standards, with all the worn out and aged bits replaced as needed, is worth more. If you're talking about a car from the 1980s, its condition is entirely the product of its owners at this point. Mileage really is secondary if any restoration/refurbishment has been completed to the right level.

There may be cars like that on eBay, but mostly they get sold directly to someone who knows the car. OTOH, if you have an average car, detailed by some kid down the street, with minor problems that you don't want to bother with, old suspension, some blended paintwork, etc., then you probably don't want to stand next to the car and meet a buyer -- easier just to cash his check and roll the car onto a truck.

That's why I'm not keen on eBay for buying cars.

As a seller, I would be less concerned. But if your car is really good you are putting it out there with a lot of riff-raff.

(None of this is intended as commentary on Drew's TR, by the way. I think the colors are cool, and if I were in the market for a TR I would check it out in person.)

I am thinking of buying it - my only issue is the Florida white white. The good part is my wife loves white cars being from Miami. The bad part is I have no garage space and have to decide what goes. Anyone want a 69z28 or Healey or Chopper???

Great color combo IMHO and considering how little you will probably drive a TR anyways......the white leather interior will be very easy to maintain in top condition. If I was in the market I'd be all over the car.......I am serious, not saying that to be a nice guy.

Tip 1: Spend $150 and have a pro redye the driver's side seat bolster and the black door panel, as well as any other visual wear and tear.

Tip 2: Buy some new floor mats with FERRARI in white lettering.

Car is a serious bargain. Wish I had a 3 car garage because I have always wanted a TR and I have never once watched Miami Vice.

David, The Esprit will actually run circles around the Diablo too (up to about 150mph then the Bull takes charge). Truth be known...the Esprit is more fun to drive, faster, and handles way better than both the TR and Diablo, BUT, it lacks a "pureness" that the Ferrari and Lambo have.

Oh, no - you're totally right. Just got a little frustrated and decided to try something different this auction. I've had it up on Ebay for almost a year, so after 52(?) auctions in a row with no sale, I said "screw it!" and put up the bikini picture last week.

But I've been getting about 500 page views per week, and this bikini auction has gotten more than 6,500 already, so maybe it'll turn to have been a good idea. Sure didn't expect it to be! :)

I agree that a picture of a girl in a bikini can never hurt. I would limit it to girls posing with the car though, not laying on it.

What does that have to do with Ebay? Who says you can't look at cars on Ebay? Are you saying you can travel to look at cars that are listed in other places, but for some reason you can't if they're listed on Ebay? Are you saying you can do a PPI on cars that are listed in other places, but not if they're listed on Ebay? Why not? That doesn't make any sense at all. How is 'buying unseen' related to Ebay in any way?

Anyone who who likes to call it 'Fleabay' or whatever is ridiculous. That's just throwing up a 'straw man' so that you can feel superior to something - you've got no reasoning to back it up, you just like feeling 'better than that.'

It's just an advertising method, and it's by far the most popular one. My local Ferrari dealership lists their cars on Ebay, and our local Lamborghini dealership did before they went under, and I know the well-respected Cat's Exotics in Seattle does, too. I sold my Delorean on Ebay, bought my 308, and later sold that same 308, without any problems.

Any complaints about a car turning out to have problems has nothing to do with Ebay - that's your failure to go look at it or have it inspected. You'd run the exact same risk if you bought something sight-unseen from an ad in Auto Trader or FerrariAds.com or from a distant dealer or at a Barret-Jackson auction.

Wow, I didn't know that. Sorry to hear.

It's sure a nice car, wish I could fit it into my scheme. I'm as frustrated that
such a car doesn't make sense for me as you are selling it. She's a beaut!

Giallo, have you ever tried higher resolution pictures?

Check out the ones of the topic of this thread, the white TR.
I think that would help a lot.

Ebay seems to resize anything I post, but I agree they don't look great on the auction. I've emailed out bigger ones to several bidders, though - anyone who asks.

It's up to $33,600 with 24 hours remaining. Reserve is $40k, so I'm really hoping I get it sold this time!

you buy your way, i buy my way....ive grown not to trust anyone....the ppi buy anyone is not worth the paper its written on....there are so many scams...and there are many so called reputible shops...yeah...yeah....like they they have a vested interest in me if its a good car or bad....whats my recourse ...coming on fchat and fighting with 20 people about whoi was right and take it to PM ? how does this relate to this thread....i dont know, im just answering your question.

P|S.. and if you read all of my post instead if snipping just one piece, you will see i said fleabay was alrigtht as an advertising avenue. And IMO i still stand as more bad cars are on ebay than good cars... Cheers

Again, I did NOT buy my car through the auction process.

I believe I paid less overall. Let me explain: I knew the TR could use a major and needed a clutch when I bought it. I preferred this so I could select who did the major and not trust it to paperwork from a previous owner. I visited and drove the car twice, negotiated a sale price contingent on PPI. The PPI came back good (I was present for this). I bought the car, had the work done and have been happy ever since. Buying a similar car (year, miles, cosmetics) from a dealer would have been more as they would have done the service, etc. and charged for it. I chose my trusted mechanic and got great service at a lesser cost.

Buying from Ebay sight unseen - never. Using it as a resource for advertising - absolutely.

You raised the price again? From 40k to 45k and now to 50k? On the same auction? When you have people offering 45k? That seems crazy - that'd sure drive me away, if I was bidding. Are they mad?

My auction ends this afternoon. Getting close to the reserve price, but it's only going up in $100 chunks, now...probably won't close. I'll redo the Ebay listing with some fancy HTML and higher-resolution pictures, when I get back from vacation in a few weeks.
