Dear Ferraristi. I know my car isnt a Ferrari but my Testarossa may help with that Issue. I have a 1972 Fiat Dino Coupe 2400. I have the original owners manual and are trying to find out what kind of oil to use on the gearbox and the limited slip differential. In the manual it only sais oliofiat W90 ore something. Hope some of you guys may know what to use. here is some pictures from a recent trip in Norway. Best Regards Daniel Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Don't worry! Your car is build at Maranello between the real Ferrari's. Thereby i know they are just as much fun to drive! Made this copy for you from the workshop-manual. This should answer your question. Best, Maarten Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thank you for your respond! I got that information. But how do I find other oils I could use? GL5 GL4? I have tryed to get a replacement but can't find it on Castrols website for instance. Cheers Daniel
Thats me and my car Pictures were taken a few weeks ago in Geiranger Norway. A group of my friends had a trip called Gentlemen Drivers Weekend.. More pics here: http://forum.lazzaroni.no/viewtopic.php?t=2911&start=0
Can't help at all with your query but your pictures on the other site have inspired research into a short summer trip to the Fjords - where is the fjord where the ferry is?
Amazing pictures on that linked site! Never thought there would be so many great coupes in Norway like the Gamma, 130, 365 etc. Never liked the SM but this is a great pic: Image Unavailable, Please Login
SAE 90W EP, would be the rating....that's almost a universal gear oil! You may need some help from Castrol on the most modern products to match that. Most likely labeled 75- 90W now. That's what I use in Royal Purple... Beautiful car!!!
Fantastic pictures. Looks like a great group of guys (except for the one that is always looking up into the sky!). As John mentioned below, this has inspired me to seek information for a summer trip to Noway. I am afraid that all of the pretty girls might induce angina. We need more pictures of Fjords and co-pilots. Jim S.
take a look at my website http://www.dinospider.com/capacities.html it has what I use in my Dino. Right off the shelf stuff, not a problem yet and have a LOT of miles on my Dino.
Unfortunately I can't help with your question, but I would like to congratulate you on your beautiful Dino. Great car, great color. You are more than welcome in this section.
Outstanding thread and I enjoyed it very much - thanks for the link, ----beautiful pics! It looks like you all had a great time.
Thank you all for your nice response. Im gonna go for the castrol reccomended by you mikeyr! I have allso searched for the right oil in the yahoo group but it seems to be a lot of different experiences. about the trip the fjord with the ferry is the famous Geirangerfjorden in Norway. Very beatufull nature with great roads for old GT cars. We had a route just about shown in this link. starting and ending in Oslo. http://www.gulesider.no/kart/#lat%3D8683200.4616%26lon%3D994769.29296%26zoom%3D7%26layers%3D0B000%26poi%3Dtrafikk%26route%3Da_10000335626%26route%3Da_10000284450%26route%3Da_10000281162%26route%3Da_10000281166%26route%3Da_10000544433%26route%3Da_10000021290%26route%3Da_10000273168%26route%3Da_10000013285%26routeType%3Dfastest%26tab%3Droute A very nice trip. Thank you all for your response Cheers Daniel
Just asked my mechanic which oil he uses. This is the Castrol also , type Castrol EPX 80W90. He told me he use this type of oil in both gearbox and differential.
The spring is here in Norway.. Didn't change the gear and differential oil last year as the winter was upon us shortly after my post! Today I drove her about 50km and it was my first trip this year! What a wonderfull car! Castrol 90wt for the gearbox.. I would buy that.. But for the limited slip differential? What kind of castrol oil for that one? do you have a number? Best regards to all of you guys! Daniel Norway Picture allso from our trip in the fjords last summer.. Getting ready for this years event next thursday! Image Unavailable, Please Login
Daniel- I had a 1970 Fiat Dino 2400 Coupe exactly the same color as yours when I was living in the UK in the early 80s. I loved it because it felt like a little Daytona in almost all respects. You should not be using a 40 year old specification chart to choose lubricants for your car. There have been huge advances in lubricants and you should be taking advantage of those. A 75W-90 or 80W-90 synthetic will give you the advantages of the straight 90 weight when warm and provide less wear and easier shifting when cold. Will work in both transmission and differential. The same thing goes for engine oil. A good synthetic like Mobil 1 or others in 10W-40 or a 15W-50 will lower wear on your engine when cold and still provide more high temperature protection than a dinosaur oil. Beautiful car, wish I still had mine. They were very easy to maintain, too. Mine ran even better after I put in an MSD capacitor discharge unit to replace the missing Dinoplex. It even had a tachometer output which worked perfectly. The only thing I hated was replacing those !@#$ cables that powered the electric windows. What a pain. Taz Terry Phillips
Daniel, Love the color of your car. Don't use any synthetic oils on your car, it will just cost you more $$$$ and cause oil leaks. Use the recommended oils. You look tall, I am too. You need to buy longer sleeve shirts, jackets and pants. Keep driving that car. Velocetwo
I'll sure keep driving it! Love the car, the design, the way it feels.. Everything about it I don't want to use syntetic oils on the car.. I use sunnoco racing 20/50 mineral oil on my car now, without any problems.. The problem is finding the right oil for the limited slip differential.. We recently had a broken differential on a Fiat Dino here in Norway.. Don't know if it was from wrong oil or the owners son driving the car I'm 192 cm tall and the sleeves look a bit short on the picture.. Just came out of the car, after some great high speed driving at this kind of roads Norways passo della Stelvio! Image Unavailable, Please Login
