I have no problem with you trying to correct information you perceive to be wrong, it was merely the method by which you were trying to do so that I found objectionable. ;)

    Much better! :D

That's quite an interesting excerpt. :)

    All the best,
    Andrew.

Joe, if you don't care about anything Lamborghini and your interests are "Italian automobile manufacturers with a racing pedigree" -- what are you doing here in the Lamborghini forum?

Beyond that, although I suspect your question was rhetorical, I am interested in all things car related, albeit to a far lesser degree. I read this particular thread because I was curious to see what owners and admirers attributed Lamborghini's tragic change of fortune to. Lamborghini has been a wonderful competitor to Ferrari for decades, heck, the very impetus for Lamborghini starting his little company makes for great theater. Ultimately, it would be very sad to see them disappear.

All that being said, rather than reading an interesting discourse, I read a 9 page thread that consisted largely of mean spirited nonsense, of which you were a significant contributor. You had an opportunity to elevate the level of discourse with your purported depth of knowledge of Lamborghini history, instead you resorted to insults.

I am already kicking myself for responding yet again.

I used to Autocross, but not in well over a decade. I love watching auto racing and reading about it, but would never consider doing it now that I have a family. Similarly, I love football, but I won't be getting in pads anytime soon ;)

It is important to know one's limitations. I am a great 7/10's driver, but an awful 10/10th driver. So if I was to race competitively, I might as well crash into the first corner and just get on with it, rather than injure anyone else :)

FWIW, I really only intended to respond to the Enzo assertions and move on. I didn't want to get involved in this thread. So, rather than hijack it any longer.

    I'm going to bow out.

Fred, now would be a good time to call me an idiot again. I promise I won't respond ;)

Oh please...you can't be that sensitive.

I suggest you go read some books about the history of Lamborghini. Then, if you are still interested, I'd be glad to talk to you more about it.

But really, if you don't know anything about the subject in the first place, don't try to enlighten me.

That does not matter. The truth is you did result to insults, which made you look like a fool no matter what your knowledge of anything is. Don't do it again.

(more reading material for some of the folks on this thread that need to learn about the early Lamborghinis)

    Widescreen Action

    The Lamborghini 350/400GT

    Classic and Sportscar, July 1996

    "Lamborghini's big-screen 350GT and 400GT stole the scene in the '60s -- even Enzo's stars were outperformed."

"...these first generation front-engined Lambos were sophisticated and uncynically engineered cars, a cut above contemporary Ferrari and Maseratis..."

"Ferruccio's 350GT of 1964 was faster, quieter, easier to drive and more carefully made than the equivalent Ferrari, yet no more expensive: he lost $1000 on every 350 he sold in 1964. No wonder those who should know -- including development engineer Bob Wallace -- cite the early Touring-bodied cars as the best ever built by Lamborghini. I'm with them there."

"...The power gushes through in an inexorable stream of turbine energy that just keeps on coming: sit back, settle down, reel in the road and escape into a parallel universe, beyond the reach of mortal motors..."

"...a delicious triple-decker aural sandwich of bellowing induction, quadraphonic cam whine and stereo chain thrash, top drawer stuff to prickle the neck hairs."

"Rich and intense, it is a howl bystanders can hear from miles away, one you can almost slice with a knife from inside."

    *sigh*

    Fred,

I pointed out how resorting to personal insults is rather self-defeating in your argument. That is only one reason you shouldn't do it... you've also been told in no uncertain terms by a site moderator that you will receive a ban if you do it again.

Whether or not you choose to be more careful with how you express your point of view is your business, but there are consequences waiting if you don't tone it down a notch. I suggest that you heed DrStranglove's advice.

    All the best,
    Andrew.

WOW...I started this thread as a place to share thoughts of the future..it was not intended to start bashing Lambos, Ferrari's and WORST of all the life's of people that are no longer with us.

As many of you know, I was a Police Offcer for 10 years...once I was speaking to a Judge in private...in regards to how he makes decisions and filters through the good, the bad and the BS..

I will never forget what he told me and till this day...belive it 100%..

"There are two sides to every event that takes place....and somewhere, normaly in the middle is the truth"

I can almost bet you that "reported aritcles" rumors and things said by the two great Automakers of our time, as is what the Judge said..."somewhere in the middle".

Unless I hear it from the mouth of the creature..I to will go with somewhere in the middle.

The point is, to everyone, one thing will be better and more dear to them then it is to another..some like Lambos, some like Ferrari's and some just like 2 wheel bicycles...

WHO cares.....enjoy what makes you happy and respect others for the choices they have that you may not agree with.

Last but not least........THEY ALL ARE JUST A FRICKN CAR!!

That is definatly true Jim. The dealers that would make it would need to basically be pre-owned stores with a Lamborghini front. The dealership I work at has a BMW point that is next to our Toyota building. We built a BMW spec building about 4 years ago. We have been the BMW dealer in Boise since 1971. BMW wanted us to take on Mini and build a stand alone showroom. All this on an allocation of less than 20 cars per year! We passed. In fact without service and the fact that we have Toyota, Lexus and Scion along with a huge used lot our BMW store would probably be in the tank just trying to sell new cars. Toyota wants us to build a stand alone Lexus store and with sales of 400 new a year that's not happening. I can't imagine having a stand alone Lamborghini dealer even in a big market. That why there are two in malls now. (Las Vegas and North Los Angeles)

If nobody else corrects these errors about Ferruccio Lamborghini, I will. Period.

There's a lot of loose talk here, which is fine. But Ferruccio was a great man, and if anybody thinks or says otherwise, they better back it up with some facts. Not just "I have no idea who he was, but..."

And like Roy said, this is about the future of Lamborghini -- Ferruccio has been out of the game for an awful long time now, so I don't understand the bitterness towards him.

It all comes back to the fact that there are some folks posting here that have no idea what they are talking about.

    Plain and simple.

They really should bite the bullet already; and, 'coalesce' their showrooms with the better U.S. Audi dealerships.

    Dear Lamborghinisti,

Boy....the last few pages have been just a joke. All these technical "book" reasons on why to own a Ferrari or a Lamborghini or why NOT to own either...

    Such "armchair quarterbacking"....

To those "talkers"....go drive one of each....they BUY what you like....simple as that.

Besides being the most "over the top" exotic car on the planet....

    ...this is why I drive a Lamborghini....nuf said ! :D

I think this is the way to go. I also think that they should offer service at Audi dealerships so that people would have more access to local service which could help sales.

So just how good do you think the service is going to be at "any" Audi dealership? Yes there are a lot of them. But it's unrelaistic to think that any great number of these dealerships are going to be able to have trained techs on hand for that very rare Lamborghini that drops by. No, you'd have to designate specific Audi dealerships as qualified for Lamborghini service. That's not going to be very many which completely negates any large Audi dealer network advantage. You also HAVE TO do everything you can to send the customer for service to the dealer who sold the car. So you're really right back in the same soup.

Maybe there could be a few selected combination Audi/Lamborghini dealerships but you could also include other combinations as well and some in cases they already do. Locally we even have a combination Ferrari/Lamborghini dealership, well sort of. You guys probably know who I mean. He makes it work, somehow?

Any Audi dealership can already work on the Audi version of the G.

Define "work on". I suppose the Murcie is just a few more hours of training so hey why not? Of course if they completely transform their product line so it really is just an Audi in an Italian looking suite it would be easier.
