The onsite director (FOM) decides what broadcasts make it onto the world feed. The local network (SPEED, etc) has no choice in the matter as the audio and graphic overlay become part of the world feed. If you just go re-read my post in the Hamilton whining thread I think I already described how it all works. no; they use digital radio and over-the-air is encrypted (at least it is allowed to be; not 100% sure if they do so but they should). what FIA and FOM receive are not actual "radio" transmissions but a [decrypted] wired connection.
There is a possible solution for teams to not leak vital info via radio broadcasts between driver/team: In the military we used code words and code phrases. For a start: Code Grey-tires going away, need to pit immediately. all the team has to do is say roger and nothing is given away. Code Black-tires gone, need to pit immediately. Code Aqua- brakes going away Code Blue- brakes gone. etc. The teams and drivers are able to communicate prevailing conditions in one word without giving the game away to the enemy... This is probably the best solution for the teams so that vital info is not given away... Frank p.s. The key to posting on 'free' websites or forums is to post and never go back (ever), because someone ALWAYS will argue with you and it's not worth it to raise your blood pressure going back-and-forth about something that amounts to nothing. Hell, that's why 95% of my postings are here in the Silver forums, we know each other, and usually where folks stand before we even post, and what we can 'get away with'. I look at open forums on Yahoo and Fox Sports about football and I can't believe 99% of the posters even know how to turn on a computer.
Wanna bet people feed wrong info on purpose? I do it quite often to find out who I can trust, for example I tell one person I make $115,000 a year, and I tell another one I make $90,000 a year, and whichever number (inevitably) comes back to me tells me who talks. Once I learn this info, I NEVER let on I know, I just never trust them again.
That is an excellent point and a VERY valuable strategy in daily life. However, if it was me, I would rather that certain events are relayed versus coded phrases. Maybe it's my time in the military, but there are some things that you do NOT say over unsecured commo... Frank
