Those shields look completely out of place on what appears to be a pretty nice Dino. Good news is a little work with dental floss will have those off in a flash. Taz Terry Phillips
I do believe that yellow is the correct color of the front side markers..at least for a 246. As much as I love most shades of red on Dino (hey, mine's red ), that black does look elegant.
That is a photo of my car before I bought it. Trust me guys, I had those shields off within the first hour the car was in my possession. I started to peel them off (because they were the urethane style with adhesive backing) and was so elated because it looked like they would come off without a hitch. The shields did come off fine but unfortunately they were covering 2 holes in the sheet metal where a previous rectangular Ferrari badge with attachment studs must have been I was expecting repair but for a few precious minutes I thought I got lucky. Here are a few photos of the car today and one when I tried to get our dog to chew up the shields but he wasn't having anything to do with them either. BTW, I will also have the Ferrari badge off the rear once she gets new paint. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thanks for the update, Tom. That's a hell of a beautiful car. I'll just never understand why people screw them up with badges. sigh.
Lovely car, TKO. Yes, I would removethe Ferrari badge on the rear, too (makes the rear a bit busy, I think). And good looking dog. Andy
AMAZING car in black!! So glad you're getting all that F bling OUTTA there... hey, cheap doggy toys, right? Jedi
Once she will get new paint, are you bringing your Dino back to original colour spezifications too? Marrone Dino Metallizzato 106-M-73 Extremly nice colour. Regards Matthias
Good question Matthias, I'm a big fan of originality and 'off' colors but I just can't warm up to that particular shade enough to live with it ...
I will always remember my Black/Tan Flares and Chairs 246 GTS 08318. Its now at latest note Fly Yellow, but I certainly did love it in Black.
Bravo Tom! The first thing I did to my Dino was to remove the horse and the Ferrari script on the rear. The holes look better.
Oh yea, definitely. The windscreen washer nozzles really need adjustment, both for direction of spray and quantity of fluid dispensed. All the best, Andrew. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Not worthy of debate, as matters of opinion don't lend themselves to such, but I find the shields rather attractive. And neither the Ferrari badge nor prancing horse create heartburn. These are beautiful vehicles no matter what you do to them, and if it pleases an owner, so be it. While I would think long and hard about placing them on an original 40-year old car, I might have done it when new. That's what affection-ado's did in the 70s. Trust me, I know. And I would not intentionally remove them knowing that a hole sat below the shield. Sounds as though TKO did not know there were holes below the badge. If and when a repaint is in order, that would be the time to remove the paraphernalia. Just my opinion, but I believe we collectively expend too much energy, thought, and time constructively criticizing modifications. In so doing we discourage aesthetic creatively. Who would entertain modifying their Dino knowing they would suffer the wrath of this collection of art critics? Jim S.
I wouldn't object to the shields, but they sit too low on the car! They should be in the same position, relative to the top of the fender, as they are on the cars that came with them from the factory! (How's that for "Art Criticism?")
I would of course retain or go back to a Dino's original color if the color were attractive to me, even though I might have preferred another color, given the choice. Since we buy these old cars now on the basis of condition, present or original color is probably a second priority only. If I did not particularly like the original color, I would not hesitate to keep the car in a "non-original" color. In the case of this car, black seems to suit it very well. The most discussed topic on the Dino forum relates to Ferrari badges, etc: 1. Should I install "Ferrari" script, badges, prancing horses, etc.? 2. Is the Ferrari badge on my car original? Should I keep it if "dealer installed"? 3. Finally, related to the above, is the Dino a Ferrari? We seem on the verge of these discussions again. I don't mind. It gives us something to wrangle over (in a good-natured way). My friends at the local sports car club have been arguing over the same topics (is MG better than Triumph, etc.) for 40 years now with no resolution in sight, but we do look forward to them!
