Not sure if a plug will work.....

My brother said my car's back tire was flat after he drove it the other day.....



And I have the rally on Sat and USMC duty all fraking week!!! Uggh!!!!

Plug it. My 348 had one similar. Just plug and drive (safely) until you can get it replaced.

 

I bet my brother I would have a response in less than 20 min!! Now to get it cleaned up and to the plug place. Its a beautiful day here too!

 

Bah, an easy fix.

You can try the plug, but do so at your own peril.
We've all probably seen the posters at the tire shop saying that they can only patch tires near the centerline. I've tried to plug a tire right about the same spot and it wouldn't hold. Presumably from too much flex there on the shoulder. Make some kind of arrangements to get a new tire, however you have to do it.
My experience was unsuccessful enough that I wouldn't even recommend trying. And you REALLY wouldn't want to be out in the country on some form of rally (gimmick, TSD, fun country drive) and have your flat come back there.

 

I too have had a nail in exactly the same place, tried a plug, didn't work even with "Fix-a flat" sealant in the tire.

 

Oh ******** it. Apparently some ass tried to take this at some point as well...

I wouldn't risk it on a high performance tire. When I bought my new Goodyear F-1s I picked up a screw in about the same place during the first mile I drove on the tires. My first call was to Tire Rack to order a new tire. Give yourself some piece of mind. Do you want to worry about that tire letting go every time you drive? New tire = $150, your life (and car) = priceless.

 

You can bend that back.......

That plug is "iffy" but if a Tire Shop can get one to hold ...maybe.

Your Speed Rating is now VOID........they patch mine like that only if I "promise" to go the speed limit 55MPH max.....

Avon's? Just pony up and get a new one from tirerack etc. It'll be here in a day or so.

A reputable tire shop won't plug that so close to the side the best you could expect is a patch if they'll even do it.

 

Yea.... I waited for someone to catch that!

I replace the tires every year with what ever is on sale. (Yea, I'm a cheap skate that way.) And since I dont track the car at all, nor drive it too hard either, it works out fine.

 

I know of one that was more in the sidewall done once as a temp. Full blowout on the highway.

 

Patch it from the inside.

Had a nail in the exact same spot in my Michelin PS/2's.

They condemn any sidewall punctures, and as others are saying a mushroom patch may or may not go into a corner like that.....that screw may not go all the way thru either!!!

 

you should probuly buy a tire,but you can try a plug-patch combo,,its a little close to the edge

 

Some people just suck! You can straighten that out. I've had to on a few of my Ferrari's in the past. Get another one from Daniel and save it for when some other ****** totally destroys it. Don't forget to order the clips that hold it on. They are a bugger to get off and will most likely be ruined doing so.

I have had a similar screw in one of my tires. I lived* with this for a while by taking a cutoff wheel and a dremmel tool and cutting the screw part off, leaving the threads to hold the air in from leaking. If you go this route, you will have to pay particular attention to daily (for a while, then weekely later) tire pressures, and not go on any long trips.

I lived this this from about half tread until the tire was worn out. In my case the screw was a little farther away from the sidewalls than ours.

Of course, the RIGHT thing to do is to get 2 new tires (min, 4 max)...

After spending a few years in the tire business.

Rule of thumb for radial tires, NO plugs. They don't really fail but are prone to chronic leaking, which CAN cause a blowout at high speed from running underinflated.

Hot patch on the inside of the tire, out to the corner but not in it.

Sidewall punctures are automatically ditched.
