It didnt Melt after all

I've got one too. Looks even better if you remove the ugly stickers (and avoid putting a prancing horse sticker on it). I will say that after removing the stickers it was a pain to get the sticky sticker residue off.

You can always tape the stickers to a sheet of paper and keep them as a reference as to the type extinguisher it is, date manufactured, full weight etc.

 

Spraying liberally with WD-40 usually removes sticker residue pretty well.

No...if anyone noticed at all (most people don't, despite what we'd like to think) they probably said, "Oh look, someone who actually drives their Ferrari!"

Nice going! As you noticed, they won't melt. My 328 drives/sits in the rain quite regularly - been rained on all night and most of the day - and it hasn't melted or demonstrated the least concern over it.

 

I've driven through the rain and mine didnt melt either. I do admit to avoiding driving in the rain as much as I can though.

Tried that and rubbing alcohol, and various "Goo" removal solutions and then finally acetone which worked the best but was still a bit of a pig. That's some wicked stuff they use to keep the stickers on!

 

its not that they melt -

its old technolgy and if you plan to keep your car long term (more than 5yrs) then you avoid these conditions of rain, and hot summer so as not to make yrou car RUST, or shrink and ruin your interior.

So next time a 3x8 hits in this section and everyone slams the car as being to expensive becasue it has a rust bubble ..or the interior has thick carpeting from home depot ... you know why

PS - in 11 yrs i have only been caught in the unexpected rain twice...and hated my drive with every drop

I drove my 328 to Birmingham for the Legends of Motorsports event this past weekend. Thursday evening, while eating dinner, the car sat through a severe thunderstorm (fortunately without hail) that forced us to abandon our outdoor-deck tables for drier ones inside. On Friday a less severe thunderstorm from 10 to 11:30 was followed by constant light rain until 3 PM. The car got pretty muddy but it didn't rain again, and I drove it home on Sunday in 92 degree heat. It still looks fine to me!

 

As the folks from down under would say, "Good on 'ya!" I'll be driving my 328 from Kent Island down to a friends house on the Chesapeake bay about 150 driving miles from here (about 50 boat miles) for memorial weekend. We're going rain or shine!

 

I've driven the 308 in the rain. Got caught twice in the snow. A few times in sleet.
I'm not happy about it though.
It use to be the windshield leaked. Got that fixed and now the rear quarter panel window leaks. Recently fixed the first minor rust bubble in 6 years of ownership. Sometimes the windshield wipers decide to stop working. It's frustrating.

But unless you have a show car, drive it.

 

Snow and ice anyone?

Oh, and salt of course...

Don't do that sh** any more now, saw what salt does to it....

We drive the TR in the rain all the time and the 328 lives outside because the garage is full. Neither has a spot of rust, top or bottom. Your rust is caused by all the salt they dump all winter long, not the rain water. In California the only rust we get is at the seashore. The whole west and south west US is like that. The cleanest cars in North America are in those areas for that reason. Its the same in Europe. Italy and as I understand it Switzerland do not use salt. The cars in Italy do not rust. Go over the border to Germany and they rust like the Titanic. The Germans use salt.

Summers here are quite often over 100, sometimes way over 100. The interiors on our cars are perfect. It is not the hot summer that kills the interior, it is parking the car in direct sun and not covering the windshield that does it. We don't have to live in a terrible climate to keep our cars nice, just be smart.

 

Don't forget: Ferrari didn't discover galvanizing until around 1983.....

I have never used the car if I knew it would rain. However during a long trip to Oslo this spring I was surpriced by rain and dicovered the same thing as many other posters here: It did not melt. It did not stop. Even the wipers worked perfectly! The wipers actually have a intermittent function! After the first panic setteled I actually started to enjoy the drive in the rain in some kind of perverted way.
I once tried to jump out of a perfectly operating airplane (with a parachute, that is..) and concluded that the strong sensation at least partly comes from the fact that you are doing something that millions of years of evelution has thaught us is wrong. Driving 30 year old supercars in heavy rain has some of the same aspects, even if you might argue that the evolutionary timespan is somewhat shorter.

 

Forget it - unfortunatley we use tons of salt over here, so much that the trees are dying of thirst along the streets and even in italy they use salt where the winters are hard enough to freeze the streets (in the north). It's really a shame...
