I am looking at buying a 1990 348. While looking at it I notice it has two belts per side (lap + shoulder) Did these have a motorized belt system?

    Thanks....

Yes. Mad mouse system is usually disabled (and/or broken) and the manual anchors are used

    Thank you...

On the 348 I was looking at they were not working. Not really a deal breaker I guess if its a common issue.

Absolutely right, I honestly don't know what Ferrari was thinking when they designed the system .... who knows !

    What else isn't working?

Belts are very common problem areas, and the general consensus is that they aren't worth fixing. I've fixed mine, but the design is flawed and they will only break again. Sort of pointless when you can just use the child seat latch and keep on driving.

Tell us some more about the car! Are you in Orlando? If so, I'm on the coast and know my way around the 348 fairly well. Would be happy to answer any questions.

Yep, I am in Orlando. The other items I noticed were:
    1) Oil on the ground, so it has a drip coming from some place
    2) Glove box would not stay open
    3) Radio cover would not stay open
    4) Windshield washer not spraying

    1) Oil on the ground. Thats a good thing, No oil dripping would indicate it was out of oil. seriously though, oil leaks are fairly common and can be anything from ultra simple DIY to ultra expensive. When was the last Major? Thats the BIG question.

    2) Glove box would not stay open. Very easy DIY. The pistons are available from a number of Non Ferrari sources.

    3) Radio cover does not stay open....Hmmm...Not a piston. Who cares, your never going to listen to the stereo anyway.

    4) Windshield washer not spraying. Was the fluid reservoir full? Was the fuse OK? Haven't really heard of any other causes as being symtomatic of a 348.

Another thing I remember not working was the clock. It was flashing 0.00

The clock retains no memory. When the battery has been disconnected (commonly done to reset ECU's) the clock goes to 0:00 and stays there until adjusted. Stupid little buttons used to adjust it cannot be manipulated by man fingers. You'll need something like a pen to accomplish this. Alternatively, steal 2 BB's from your kids gun and lightly glue them to the buttons. Makes'em easier to use.

Try and get some pictures if you can, or a vin and we can help you scrutinize it. The concern is not so much getting a perfect car, but getting one wihtout major red flags and/or at the appropriate price.

When the key is turned on, do you see 2 slow down lights AND 2 check engine lights? How many miles, and how is oil pressure when idling / revved up?

Are you going to have a PPI done?

If I'm not mistaken, the 1989 models did not have the motorized seatbelt and then the 1990 and newer did.

Took my mad mouses out and never looked back. Wasn't that hard and now I don't have to deal with them stopping all time. Saved a few pounds on weight too. If you want to do that let me know and I can explain the process.

    more info on it....

    miles=40,000, price= $32k

There were some lights along the bottom and the sides that were on when started. Then
went out. I will see the car again next Tuesday and will see exactly which ones come on.

The oil pressure and temp gauges seemed to stay in the middle of the dial when running.

No smoke was seen upon starting and it idled around 1000 rpm. It has a Tubi exhaust.

I am going to have Ferrari of Orlando go over it top to bottom.

Bingo...Thats the part I wanted to hear. I have no experience with F of Orlando but assume the best.

Please find www dot my348 dot com for more details on PPI's and stuff you can do yourself
