Maybe they do MEAN Kyle......or Buda.............maybe Wimberly......:D :D :D :D
If funding and that major hurdle was crossed would it be possible for the "eco socialist weenies" to can it? Could they find some sort of bird that nests somewhere and not allow any progress. It's been done before in Austin. Nevertheless I still am very hopeful for this venue, but thinking about it, and the sheer costs, I can't say I'm not worried
I had been quietly hoping for Fort Worth, but this is 150 miles closer to me than Indy and Austin is a great place. If they plan the thing so it has good parking and access, I can be home by midnight. The only downside for me is that it would be nice to have been able to attend Montreal and US GP on same trip, and that is now out.
Well, here's what jumps off the page to me.... (..and I'll admit I don't know Tavo Hellmund from Bo Diddley.) Ten Year Contract...yea ...right........even the old tracks of Europe don't get a 10 year deal out of Bernie, and more to the point, if he fails financially (recall the divorce?) is the paper any good? So there's going to be MILLIONS of $$$$ (based upon Indy's infield) to construct a clean sheet facility, amortized against ten years of use ( in Heaven that's how it works).... Based upon annual profit? Based upon attendance? Based upon the lil' midget being happy with track safety and his pole dancers?????? This last part is easy, as again due to the Legislature, Austin probably has the highest per capita concentration of strippers/escorts of any US city..... All of this brought to you by a guy in a stock car, racing around a 3/4 mile paved oval track in Kyle. I guess that's why they call it Promotions.........see you there in 2012!!! That's not very long to pour the concrete. Where's the Environmental Impact Statement, anyone seen it??
I thought we were all staying at Rob's place. If the NFL can award the 2014 Super Bowl to the NY Giants/NY Jets and play outdoors in Jan/Feb, Austin can certainly host a GP. Can you say blizzard. BTW: Texas Rangers filed bankruptcy today.
..not quite, there are two other private tracks, none of which are ovals BTW... also, recent additions include the Bentley, Aston, Maserati dealers as well as the small Ferrari dealer. We may not be Houston...and we thank God for that
Less than two years to get a purpose built track going? F1 in a corner of the world that "no one" goes to? How could this even be seriou... ...oh I get it. This is Bernies way of having a race in Mexico.
I knew about the other tracks, but are either of them able to ugrade to full FIA standards??? Length???? I come over every Thursday, I enjoy the difference as well.......
he would be qualified in several areas, with all that infusion of money anyone somewhat related to road racing should be able to get a piece.
Starting in 2012 on a newly built circuit. This should be terrific. Great for Texas! http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/83873
The whole thing sounds stunningly naive: http://www.statesman.com/blogs/content/shared-gen/blogs/austin/cityhall/entries/2010/05/25/mayor_formula_one_is_coming_to.html?srcTrk=RTR_554183 One excerpt: "It was not immediately known where an F1 track would be built in Austin."
yet the contract starts in 2012. yeah, right. this is a "shot across the bow" of the new leadership at IMS by Bernie.
Tavo Hellmund of "Full Throttle Productions," the promoter: http://www.statesman.com/health/content/health/fitcity/09/26fitcity.html
This makes it all sound a bit better, quoting the governor, state comptroller and Austin mayor: http://joesaward.wordpress.com/2010/05/25/a-grand-prix-in-austin/ So ... who's putting up the dough?
Gee, of all places, maybe it will be designed by the same bore that did Miller & NJ , boring tracks with no place to pass but look nice on paper. Whats wrong with having it at Road America, Laguna, Road Atlanta, or Watkins Glen? Not enough payola to Bernie?
